Issue with AT&T Internet Connection - Slow Speeds and Frequent Disconnections

Hi there,

I'm currently experiencing some frustrating issues with my AT&T internet connection. It has been running significantly slower than usual, and I've been encountering frequent disconnections throughout the day. This problem has persisted for the past week, and it's becoming quite inconvenient for me to work or even browse the internet reliably.

I've tried troubleshooting on my end by power cycling the modem, checking all the cables and connections, and even running speed tests. However, the problem still persists. I've also checked for any service outages in my area, but according to the AT&T website, everything seems to be functioning normally.

I wanted to reach out to the AT&T community here to see if anyone else has experienced a similar issue recently or if anyone has any suggestions for further troubleshooting steps I can try. Is there a known issue with AT&T internet in my area that I might not be aware of? Are there any specific settings or configurations I should check on my modem or router?

Any assistance or guidance you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help!

Hello @DaniellaRyan, we understand the importance of having your service working properly.

Lacking signal range is often the cause of an unstable internet connection. Restarting your gateway is an excellent first step as it can resolve a lot of connectivity issues.  However, there are many things that can cause your internet to slow down or even cause your Wi-Fi to lose connection:

  • Check your router’s environment: plug it directly into an outlet and make sure it is at least 3-4 ft from any other electronics.
  • Check the number of devices connected through our Smart Home Manager: even if the device is not actively in use, it is still taking up a portion of your internet.

We also offer an Internet Troubleshooting article to check your speed that has a few solution  to common things that can cause your internet to slow down. After checking over everything, if you still experience slow internet or Wi-Fi drops,  we can try some troubleshooting in a direct message.

Let us know how this works or if you have any other questions

This response is garbage.  There are definitely issues with AT&T fiber.  I’m having the same issues.  Download speeds are ridiculously slow and constant disconnections.  I’ve counted 15 disconnections today and it’s only 5:30.  I’ll be looking to switch back to Spectrum.  Tried giving ATT another shot after years away from them but reliability and speed continues to disappoint.

I’m having the same issues. I’ve reset my router multiple times. It works for maybe 10 minutes and then goes out. I’ve got the basic AT&T 300 plan. Im supposed to get 300 up and 300 down. I’ve done multiple speed tests. The highest I’ve got is 41 down and then the test doesn’t even measure the up because it fails every time Hopefully this will be fixed.

I wouldn't hold our breath, @FRstrella. Whenever I've tried to reach out to AT&T (and I've been a customer for over two decades!) they say the same corporate pablum, recycle modem, move it, etc etc (same as above) - I've already done ALL this trouble-shooting (was an IT person myself) and have continued to have the same issues as OP for the past two weeks now and pay full price for highest speed level Fiber!

I agree with @jgoheen1 and am tired of the runaround and constant intermittent issues. They didn't replace my router/modem when they installed my fiber (said it wasn't necessary (WHAT?!! Had that modem for >10+ yrs, your tech hadn't improved since then? Besides, it's now fiber!!)) & now want to charge me monthly for a newer (not even actually new) modem!

I've had it.

I’ve done everything but move the modem. I literally can’t move the modem because I live in an apartment and the fiber runs into my closet. The only want I can get to my closet is through my bathroom. It also doesn’t help that AT&T has a monopoly on my apartment complex.
