How do I retrieve the deleted emails?

I had a number of opened emails that I could easily view on any of my devices.  This morning, I refreshed my email on my iPhone, and all the saved emails suddenly were gone, and not in the trash.  I checked all my other devices and they were gone as well.  Any suggestions for retrieving them?  I have been receiving emails since this morning, but the old ones never came back.
