E-mail deactivated due to DSL services suspended

NOTE: Please read the entire thing. And I beg of any of you to post only constructive and meaningful answers/solutions.

Backstory: My grandfather used his old e-mail to buy me a video game from an online retailer. The mail itself had a key I had to use to activate the game. A few years later, my grandfather passed away. Because of that, we canceled his AT&T DSL services. Unfortunately, I was unaware that his SBC Global e-mail tied to the DSL service would be terminated as well. Some time between then and now, I had lost the key to the video game, and the only way to get it back is to have it resent to the e-mail address you bought it with. This leads to my main problem.

My problem as of right now: The key for the video game I detailed earlier can only be recovered by being resent to the e-mail the video game was purchased with. Considering the e-mail is suspended, it is impossible to access the key, along with anything else on the e-mail. Before we cut straight to the solutions, I have already tried the following: call AT&T Tech Support's Call Center, have back-and-forth e-mails with AT&T Tech Support employees, as well as Yahoo! Tech Support employees, and I have also tried doing that option where it gives you a choice to sign up for another e-mail. All of those solutions did not work.

My solution: I think that a possible way to fix this problem is to completely delete the old account, and then allow me to sign up again with the same exact e-mail adress name.

Another possible way to fix this problem is to forward e-mails from CERTAIN senders to another e-mail address.

I will provide information on the old e-mail account, but because this a public forum, I will only reveal information to actual AT&T employees or other trusted community members who Private Message me due to privacy reasons and personal information.

I have had a simular problem like that.

I do not know where you got the game code from but here's what I did.

The signup email I used was no longer good, (was old company personal email that went out of business) so the domain name was not active therefore invalid email.

I used to play EVE online and had to recover my password for my account. I could not log in.

I sent CCP and email stating such, and they asked me a few questions like, what was a char. name, what bank and card type did i bill my service on and my home address at the time i was billing, and my current email address. That was all I need to get my account back.

I also had to do this with Steam. My steam login ID is still my old invalid email but they changed my email address for me. so i could recover my password.

If there is a human being at the game comany, you may have to email the billing dept and see if they can help. you will need some form of proof of ID, and such, billing, addresses, etc dates purchased, and they may help you change your email.

I was always told that the since yahoo admins the email systems emails should not get locked unless you have no password. but I am unsure of SBCGolbal.

Have you tried sending and email to the email address? do you get a returned delivery error? if not, the email is actually still active, and should be recoverable, BUT you will have to get whoever is the successor to your grandfather's estate to do it, as they will be the legal heir and allowed by law I would say.

If you DO get a mail returned error, that would actually be better as there is actual proof that the email is closed and no good. there my need to be info emailed in i.e old CC bill, copy of legal docs, like death cert., power of attorney over estate etc.

It would probably be easier to just re-buy the game i would think. But I understand sentimental value also. hope this helps you!

Thank you so much for the reply! This is probably the first time I've posted on a support forum without getting autoreplies from bots. What a relief! Smiley LOL

Anyways, the game I'm talking about is Blockland. It's not a company-run game like Planetside 2 or EVE. It's an indie game run by a single person. So there's no departments or anything to deal with, only him. I've actually posted on their forums, not just once, not twice, but THREE times, and not once did the developer even bother to reply. Getting any support from him is out of the question at this point.

Also, the e-mail is gone for sure. I sent an e-mail to it and it immediately got resent. It's most likely now unrecoverable. The best solution for this now is to either let me make another e-mail under the same address or somehow make it so all e-mails sent to it are forwarded to me.

Still waiting on an official reply from AT&T and Yahoo!, though. Hopefully they can get to me soon.

message from auto reply bot:

Sign up now for AT&T Uverse! Get the latest IPDSL!

>>>>the fine print: We will replace your old ADSL fast speed with newer slower technology because we don't want to spend money in your town because you don't have as many people as a large metropolitan area. We'll also tell you that 3.0mb ADSL is aval but there are no more ports in your town since we now are selling the only avail 768K Uverse in your neighborhood of 40+ houses.<<< End fine print

Sincerly,

Auto-reply ad bot

(ok that was a little joke, except for the fine pint, that's my delimma with AT&T)

Seriously, I am afraid that since the BL people are already a suspicous sort, and SOME people are dishonest it generally makes EVERYONE suspect regardless.

if an account is CANCELED, then the email should be released and should be able to be used again one day (like telephone numbers) BUT if ATT bought out SBC Global, like they did Bellsouth, you will possibly never be able to have an @SBCGolbal.net email address ever again. As it did with my @Bellsouth.net (which i miss dearly) because your new email address will be @att.net and that is all they will offer. (I asked if I could have my old email and was told no)

The only other way is if they can re-activate and link the old email with your current account. but i am not sure. I also and getting the pic that the Key you need also keeps track of your ingame progress like leveling (if there is such) and items in inventory. That would be a major loss to have to start over if true.

I am certain it can be done, its just a matter of legality, and if you can get someone that will actually CARE enough to help. (instead of just talking a great game of CARE)

As i said earlier, ask yahoo/ATT  if you can get the legal documentation from the estate successor and other proof you need and email pdf copies or fax it in, or mail it registered mail. This will prove that you are who you say you are, etc. Because in this day and age, there should be a way to recover such things.

here is a topic i found, I do not know if this will help,

I think you will need to know the user name and password or else it will def not work.

Thanks again for the help! I read over the link you gave me, but unfortunately, nothing in there could really help me due to the fact (sorry, didn't mention this before) that we terminated my grandpa's DSL services 4 years ago. I appreciate your time, as the LAST thing I want to do is repeat myself 20 times to a half-human half-robot techie.

It really is odd, though. Reading over other topics, I thought that it was because we might have terminated his services and we had some unpaid bills on it. But I don't think that can be the case, because I actually did in fact go on my grandpa's e-mail, about a year after that, for the same reason I have now. Basically, it was completely fine, and then it all went down the toilet. -_-

As we speak, I am sending e-mails back and forth with AT&T support managers. Hopefully, I can atleast get my key back. That's all I really care about at this point. >_<
