What are Desktop Browser Notifications?
Desktop notifications are a way to provide an on-screen ‘alert’ for breaking news and/or other content being published on the att.net homepage. These ‘alerts’ appear in a small rectangular box on your desktop screen.
Why would I want to allow these notifications?
Desktop notifications are a great way to be alerted to impacting information when not directly viewing the att.net homepage.
Do I have to receive these notifications?
No: Desktop Notifications are strictly voluntary. You will have the option to select one of three responses when queried about setting up notifications.
- Allow — if user selects this, they will be prompted to select “allow” via the dialog box.
- Maybe later — Your response will be recorded, and you won’t be shown any notifications. Please Note: You may receive a dialog box periodically asking to re-select your choice to either ‘Allow’ or ‘Ignore’ future notifications.
- Ignore (“x” on the right of the html opt-in dialog) — in this case, the opt-in dialog will be shown next time the user visits the page.)
What Internet Browsers are supported to allow these notifications?
- Chrome (Windows and MAC)
- Firefox (Windows and MAC)
- Microsoft Edge (Windows) — Does not support Desktop Notifications at this time but is on the roadmap and will be supported very soon.
Please Note: Internet Explorer – (all versions of Internet Explorer are not compatible and are not on the roadmap. Internet Explorer is an unsupported browser by Microsoft as well as AT&T; we recommend you upgrade your Browser to either the Microsoft Edge 15.xx or higher or use Chrome and/or FireFox as your browser)
Will I be able to go back and Allow/Block Notifications from appearing?
Desktop notifications can only be shown to those who opt-in to receiving them. Each supporting browser provides a similar looking dialog that can be triggered by a web page and give users three options:
- Allow notifications;
- Block notifications — if user selects this option, they will never be asked again, unless they manually go into the browser settings and remove the block;
- Ignore — usually an “x” button in the corner that dismisses the dialog without blocking the page from showing it again in the future.
Will AT&T store any of my personal information if I allow these Desktop Notifications?
No: None of your account data/information is being stored or accessed by AT&T and/or its affiliates to provide or because of you allowing and/or viewing these Desktop Notifications.
Do I have to be logged into ATT.net to receive these notifications?
No: You do not need to be logged in to the att.net homepage to receive the notifications. When signing up for the notifications, the system remembers you and will automatically send these ‘Alerts’ to you.
What will these ‘Alerts’ look like?
