bellsouth.net email box not working in Outlook AGAIN

My bellsouth.net email box in Outlook 2010 is giving this error:
Task 'b_kitch@bellsouth.net - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC92) : 'Your e-mail server rejected your login. Verify your user name and password for this account in Account Settings.  The server responded: -ERR [SYS/TEMP] Server error - Please try again later.' I've been getting this for a while (probably not more than 2 weeks, if that), prior to which it worked perfectly.

I have verified that I can get into it in webmail. (I HATE webmail!) I did have to change the password in webmail because it was "locked". I removed the Outlook mailbox and set it up again. I have verified multiple times that all settings are correct. This happens periodically and costs me a ridiculous amount of time to get it resolved each time. Sometimes it goes away by itself in a few days...sometimes it doesn't.

How can I resolve this without having to deal with customer service phone calls (again!)

Or is there a way to completely delete the mailbox in my ATT account, as I rarely use this one any more. (I have another that I should delete also.)

Thank you.

Hello @CatladyDane!

I hope your day is well besides the Outlook issue! This is unusual you can access your bellsouth.net email via a web page, but not by Outlook. This is definitely not what we want to hear happening. Thank you for letting me know what steps you have taken so far. I am more than happy to help with this today!

Please ensure your email service settings are setup properly in Outlook. Here is an article with all of those steps.

Here is a great help center from Microsoft which addresses issues with Outlook. You can click on Troubleshooting or search for the solution. To chat with a Microsoft representative you may click this link.

If you decide to cancel this email account here is an article with those directions.

I’m Glad I could help! Thank you and have a wonderful week!

Weird.the day after I submitted the question the account resumed working
correctly.I did nothing to make this happen. That's what puzzles me; this
happens from time to time.

I have had an identical problem accessing my bellsouth.net email account using Outlook 2010 both in late 2017 and AGAIN starting late on Saturday, October 13, 2018.  As you have experienced, it then started working on its own, then went down later in the day.  This happened each day this week until Friday, October 19, when it was down until late afternoon.  When I called AT&T to report this problem, I was first routed to the Philippines, then back to the US when I demanded this, as I have wasted endless hours with AT&T's so-called support in the Philippines.  Then, when I asked to speak to a senior technical manager in the group supporting the interface to Outlook, I was routed to AT&T ConnecTech in India.  My access to email via Outlook was immediately restored after I shouted VERY LOUD and threatened to request the US Government to break up AT&T’s monopoly in Fort Lauderdale when I was asked to pay money to sort out a problem that AT&T had created. It was down again later on Saturday, and is still down at 11.30am EST on Sunday, October 21.  I use Microsoft Office 2010 using Windows 7 on a Lenovo X220 ThinkPad, as these are the latest versions of these Microsoft products that I consider usable for a professional user.

Please help, or I will have no option other than to raise this matter with the appropriate government authorities.
