AT&T AntiVirus Plus for mac

Trying to get it to run after installing it.  Mac is running macOS 10.14.6 but saw that it was saying it needed upgrading although the requirements were macOS 10.6 or higher.  Version downloaded is McAfee 3.3.

My mac meets the requirements but when I install AnitVirus Plus and try to open it the message is to check with the developer to make sure it will run on the mac.  The installed version is 4.9.3 and it crashes as soon as you try to open it.

We understand that you're having trouble with getting Anti Virus plus working on your mac PC mactech626.

We suggest that you try reaching out to the developer as suggested by message your receiving, could be due to something on your device not meeting requirements.

Please let us know what happens.

So reach out to McAfee since no one at AT&T has a clue as to what is going on.

ATTHelp Raiden.....what part about "when I install AntiVirus Plus and try to open it"  are you having a problem with?

Nowhere does @mactech626 mention anything about downloading the file.  🙄

Here is the deal.  At one time I had McAfee running on my Mac but when I upgraded to MacOS 10.14.6 it stopped.  I tried looking for an update through AT&T since I am suppose to get it free with my internet package.  I just received an email stating how it was free and gave the link to use to download it.  I download and install but McAfee crashing every time even though my Mac meets the requirements.  So far all the AT&T comments have been useless.

Nothing new there.  😁

But frankly, at this point I'm not sure where AT&T fits in all of this or how they could help you in any way.  You actually have the file which is where their involvement ends. The file comes directly from McAfee (https://home.mcafee.com/Secure/Protected/Dashboard....), and it fails to run correctly on your Mac.

Why even bother with MacAfee on a Mac?

My guess is MacAfee is still having issues with their software. First it was just downloading. Now it appears it's an installation/running issue. Typical of MacAfee.

Well, personally I'd never put any third party A/V on a Windows machine, especially Norton or McAfee.

But on a Mac, one really should have something there.  It's a myth that Macs don't get viruses, they do and with increasing frequency.  The fact that many Mac owners buy into that myth and feel invincible is exactly why if I were a malware distributor I'd target them.  However, with such a small user base compared to Windows machines, they mostly go for the more target rich environment.
