Adding @att.net email to Apple mail

I have been having this issue for quite some time now. I cannot add my email to my Apple mail. I have tried several times and every time I log in with my @att.net email address and password it has me “set new password”. After I enter a new password, it takes me back to the login page. I enter the “new” password and it directs me AGAIN to set a new password. I have changed my password several times and it would not allow me to add my email. I think I discovered the reason why it doesn’t let me. I think the reason is because my yahoo email and att.net email are the exact same. I created a new @att.net email and added it to my Apple mail using yahoo and it worked fine so I believe the conflict is with the email id. How can I add my original email?

Let's help get you back into your email, @Frankiedln.

  • Are you able to log into this email account when using a web browser?
  • Have you created a secure mail key for this email account?
  • What version of apple mail are you using?

Due to enhanced security of AT&T Mail, you’ll have to use either OAuth or a secure mail key to get your email through an app. If your Mac computer is running OS 10.11/El Capitan or above, then it uses OAuth.

Let us know if this helps or if you have more questions about this.

We're here to help @Frankiedln, with adding your email.

We understand you're having trouble adding your email to Apple mail app.

  • When you mention that both your emails are exactly the same, do they sure the same domain name as well?
  • Do both emails share the same password as well, if so have you tried different passwords for each account?

That could be the problem here if your accounts are exactly the same it could be affecting your login. Please let us know.

The domain is not the same but the "User ID" is. One is @yahoo.com and the other is @att.net. The password is not the same since i have changed it several times and when i was on the phone with att, they also had me change it.

Thank you. I was finally able to add my email to my Apple mail. I created a secure mail key and added the att.net account as “other” instead of “yahoo”. It finally worked. I tried several times creating the account as other but it would always give me an error. But now it finally worked using a secure mail key as the password. Thank you.
