When will Fixed Wireless Internet Service will be available in Lamar and PIke counties in Georgia?

https://www.att.com/internet/fixed-wireless.html

Does anyone have an inside knowledge as to when Lamar and Pike counties in Georgia will have this service available?

It seems to me as though they may have announced this without actually being ready to start offering the service.  When you go to the website it immediately goes to a screen that says it is not available in your area, before you have even put a zip code in.  There is something horribly wrong with the market when there is demand and there are people ready to purchase a product or service but no one is offering the service.  There are people in third world countries with better internet service than rural America.  It is a pity the FCC is in bed with the corporate monopolies that control internet utilities.

Me also wondering whats going on?

There was news about it that it should be available in Alabama and nobody knows anything:

http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/att-launches-fixed-wireless-internet-in-rural-and-underserved-areas-in-8-more-states-300479002.html

Is news on websites appeared earlier than actually service available?

Hello again @LinuxFun,

Here's our official press release that talks about our plans for serving rural and underserved areas. It looks like Alabama made the list for fixed wireless internet expansion.

Funny enough I live in pike county and asked the very same question a while ago.

The "rollout" if you can call it that, covers 2 whole counties in the entire state. Neither one is as underserved as we are in Pike.

In fact Decatur county in south GA is one of them and they already had 64% access to broadband.

Pike county has 10%.

So it looks like a gimmick to get headlines and nothing more, they are obviously not serious about connecting underserved rural communities.

If they were serious they would have started with the most underserved areas.

I hope you are wrong but I won't hold my breath.  I am also tired of how my crappy DSL service keeps going up in price too.  It used to be $38, then it went up to $42, then $48, and I logged in yesterday after checking my bank account and for some mysterious reason I was billed $51.  My service isn't getting better so why is my bill higher than someone on much faster Uverse, (which of course is not available in my area)?  The biggest slap in the face is how they don't even send notifications out of a price increase.  I have not had a single email, letter, or phone call to inform me of the price increase.  In a court of law, their actions would be unconscionable.

As for this fixed wireless internet, I hope that Decatur county is just some sort of trial run for mass roll out because if not, then as taxpayers and citizens of this country, we may need to start questioning why our governments, state and federal, are giving billions of dollars in corporate welfare to a company who refuses to make improvements in rural areas.  It is nothing short of corruption and fraud for taxpayer money to be handed over to these companies and for no requisite improvements to be made.  I run a home business and have to pay for a hotspot device to supplement the DSL because at times it is so slow and unreliable.  Between the two of these services, I get something with approaches passable internet service.  People in this country should not be expected to live with third world internet services just because they live a few miles from a small town or city.

Think of it on a per mbps basis and it really hurts, I had comcast 25 mbps for 50 dollars a month for years.

thats 2 dollars per 1 mbps, I now pay 50 dollars for 1.5 mbps with at&t.     OUCH!!!!!!

And btw I wrote to the Pike county GA development authority about this, no reply ....shocked!

When will service be available in Peach and Crawford county GA area.  All we had was Dial Up.  At&t refuses to upgrade service in our area.  Millions of dollars from the government bought Time Warner, and still no internet.  At&t is corrupt.

Just an update - still no fixed wireless for my address in Lamar county.  AT&T lies about bringing new services to rural areas, and also lobbies at the state capital to prevent co-operatives and EMC's from being able to do what they won't do.  Disgraceful company.  Time for our political leaders to run these crooks out.
