Speed is lower than the package I'm paying for...

Hello. I am paying for a 25mbps internet package but the speed never goes over 11mbps. This doesn't make sense to me.

My son's computer is wired and everytime he checks the speed it always says 11mbps. Any idea why this is?

Thanks,

Tanda

What speed test is he using? To where?

Which gateway do you have?

If the 599, 5268 or 210, download the smart home manager app and run the internal speed test, what the gateway sees to the ATT server.

If testing off network, non ATT server, it would be unknown the distance, route traveled, etc.

If ping is greater than 30 your testing off network or to an ATT server more than 100 miles away.

EDIT... if in the midwest, try using SPEEDTEST.NET to COMCAST CHICAGO... in my experience this reports about 90% what the internal ATT reports.

Also when testing, no other device should be in use, no streaming, gameplaying, uploading, etc... speedtest reports what is available at time of testing not what you are subscribed to... thus for best results need to be testing with only 1 device active to known local server.

We have the BGW210 gateway.

The speedtests he was using was speedtest.net and fast.com.

Speedtest.net is saying 10.8 mbps download and 0.97 mbps upload at 38 ping to a server in Montgomery, AL.

We used to get 25mbps download until we were having issues with our router. The AT&T technicians came over and fixed the wires outside but now our internet speed is half of what it was. The technician said we were using as much internet as the wires would allow.
