Received Email to "Review Your Order" but I Didn't Order Anything -- BUT Not SPAM

So, I got an email saying "Review Your Order", but I didn't order anything. The email looked slightly suspicious, but it had our correct account number on it. So, I do not click anything in the email and instead call AT&T.

I tell the customer support person the situation and she looks our account up. She says, there was an "automatic order placed" by the system but it is for $0 and our account balance is $0 and everything is okay.

I am perplexed and ask her the order number. I look it up on the website and sure enough, an order was placed for $0.

I ask her what do you mean "automatic order"? She proceeds to explain that since we have not called them for 2+ years the system automatically runs a test to be sure the account is still active and this requires an order for the test to be created but it is $0.

Now, this is a Internet Account. I ask her, well, can't you see that we are using data and that we pay our bill every month? Doesn't that constitute "active". She doesn't really have an answer to that and just repeats that the "automatic order" is for $0 and our account balance is for $0 and everything is normal.

Has anyone else ever experienced anything like this before?

Thanks!

We get how confusing it was for you to get that email, @mlmk.

Like the representative stated, the system automatically created the order just to make sure the account was still active. It doesn't go by service usage, as sometimes service can be functional even after an account has been closed.

We hope this clears things up for you. If you need assistance with anything else, we'll be happy to help.
