Internet runaround

I have been with AT&T for 14 years and have had a grandfathered unlimited choice plan for my home internet for the past year as I live in a very rural area with no cable or 5g access.

A month ago my wireless internet started to go out most of the day.   Two weeks of "troubleshooting" with AT&T phone support I was instructed to "bring the box to an AT&T store and they'll fix it".  🤣 They looked at me like I was nuts.  They didn't know anything about it, but could sell me another one, oh, except that it was unavailable until October.  "You can use a different brand hotspot", they said, like the Netgear MR1100 they had on display.  Except they didn't have any of those either.

So I get one delivered the next day from Netgear.  Hook it up, no internet connection.  One week of calls to a dozen different AT&T support people, to find that "oh, your grandfathered plan isn't compatible with that device.  You'll have to switch plans (and pay $900.00 per month extrapolating from past usage) or get another Netcomm".  So I get a refurbished one from Amazon, and still no internet.   Now I'm told that my plan isn't compatible with that device either.

That was a week ago.   Nine "support" people and 20 hours on the phone later,  I get "we have a case set up for you (the third one) to make your old unlimited plan work with your netgear".  It'll be resolved 9 days from now.

I said get me a temporary plan so I can at least have internet access.   Over two hours straight on the phone and they are "just about there", and the call gets dropped.   Another hour on the line and I tell them just get me a plan so I can have internet.

All told I've been without intent for over a month, and have dealt with 35 different  AT&T "support technicians" for around 50 hours of my life that I won't get back.

They're telling me I'm back to the $900.00 plan.   We'll see about that.

Oh, and still no internet.

Anyone else encounter this issue?

Thank you for reaching out @Bmcphee1969 and we'll be glad to assist you with getting connected to your Netgear Internet device.

First, we'd recommend you to purchasing an Wi-Fi extender for your home rather than paying a 900.00 bill. To improve your connection, make sure your Wi-Fi enabled device and network adapter run the latest software updates and device drivers. (To confirm you have the latest drivers available, visit your network card or device manufacturer’s website and look for a Support or Driver link.)

Also, please be advised the only available plans that's compatible with your device is our AT&T Data Connect Plan 256GB or 40GB. (Unlimited phone plans are not compatible with wireless hotspot devices it'll need to be a DATA ONLY plan.)

We hope this information helps.
