Internet Cabling Not Buried

In August 2022 we had fiber optic internet installed in a second home. The internet was installed by AT&T and works great.  We left to go back to our primary resident and were told that the cables would be buried within two weeks, which would have been near the end of August 2022. We are back visiting the second home in April 2023. To our surprise, we discovered the internet cables were not buried and they are crossing the sidewalk where it can be a danger to people walking. How can we get these internet cables/wires buried?

Looks like your buried wire order was never executed. Contact the Buried Wire Center at 800-924-9420.

Thank you so much davemize. AT&T is sending someone out on Sunday to address the problem. We will see if they take care of it or not.

The tech on Sunday will be to create the Buried Drop Request (BDR)... not to bury the line.

Once the request is created the Buried Wire Center can schedule the actual burial. In many areas this is a local contractor, not an ATT employee.

To get the internet cables/wires buried, you can follow these steps:

Contact AT&T: Reach out to AT&T, the company that installed the fiber optic internet. Explain the situation and inform them that the cables have not been buried as promised.

Provide details: Provide AT&T with the necessary information, such as your account details, installation date, and any reference numbers or documentation related to the installation. This will help them locate your records and understand the situation better.

Express concern: Emphasize the safety hazard posed by the exposed cables crossing the sidewalk. Explain that this poses a risk to pedestrians and could potentially lead to accidents.

Request immediate action: Request that AT&T sends a technician or a team to bury the cables as soon as possible. Stress the urgency and emphasize that the cables have been left exposed for a significant period, contrary to the original agreement.

Escalate the issue: If you don't receive a satisfactory response or action from the initial customer service representative, ask to speak with a supervisor or escalate the issue to a higher level of support. Politely explain the situation again and express your dissatisfaction.

Document evidence: Take clear photographs or videos of the exposed cables, highlighting the safety concerns. This visual evidence can be useful when discussing the issue with AT&T and may help expedite the resolution.

Local authorities: If AT&T is unresponsive or fails to take appropriate action, you can consider contacting your local authorities or city's department responsible for infrastructure or public works. Inform them about the hazardous situation and provide the evidence you've gathered. They may be able to intervene or provide guidance on how to address the issue.

Remember to remain polite but firm when communicating with AT&T and other parties involved. Providing specific details, emphasizing safety concerns, and documenting evidence will strengthen your case and increase the chances of a swift resolution.
