Internet 25 plan cost in California with modem rental charge?

So my family has internet 25. Right now its $40 a month. I need a new modem because mine is outdated. With the new policy they force you to rent the modem for $7. So if I upgrade my modem to quadruple my internet speed will I be paying a straight fee of $47? Are there any hidden fees that I will be charged for? Also is there a way to reduce the fee without using a promotion? Because I know other areas that pay 200 mbps for $40.

So if I upgrade my modem to quadruple my internet speed...

You said you have internet 25 service.  What makes you think getting a new gateway is going to get you and faster speed?   Doesn't matter which gateway you get you are not going to get faster than what you are paying for.  Certainly are not going to "quadruple" it unless you can get a Internet 100 fiber connection installed.   And if there is no fiber in your area to your home you won't be able to get internet 100 in the first place.

The modem is the problem. I need a new one but there is a $7 rental charge. Is there any other hidden fees? I know another person with the same EXACT specifications as me but with a new modem and their internet speed is much faster. I know the modem is the problem. I already did the research. I get 33 mbs max at their house and 8 mbs max at my house.

I have a low-speed modem and I want a high-speed modem that they now charge an extra $7 rental fee to use with no option to buy it at a set price. Don't answer if you can't understand or give smart aleck answers that are still incorrect. Do a good job or don't do the job at all.
