Internet 25 Gateway Self-Install

I currently have the Internet Basic 6 plan.

My account says that I am eligible for the AT&T Internet 25 plan.

If I click:    Get this plan   on the page, it gives a Wi-Fi Gateway Installation First Available Appointment Date.

Can I do a new AT&T Internet 25 gateway self-install because I now have the Internet Basic 6 plan and the wiring is now there?

Or is a technician visit required?

It will depend on your copper loop distance....

There is a single pair copper install of internet 25 that is available out to about 2600 to 2800 feet.

IF your copper loop is greater than this distance would require a bonded pair install that is about a 2 to 3 hour tech upgrade.

As the database is supposed to list best speed possible, most will require bonded service

Example internet 100/20 is (2) Internet 50/10 combined with copper distance less than 1000 feet from VRAD.

SIMILARLY most internet 50/10 are (2) internet 25/5 combined from 1800 feet to 2800 feet.

THUS, expect best speed of internet 25 will be (2) internet 12.5 combined at distance of 2800 feet to about 5000 feet.

IF your in an apartment or condo complex that only provides single pair service then a self install would be possible but I would estimate 80+% of internet 25 today would be bonded pair service requiring the tech appointment for installation.

Thanks my thoughts.

Think I'll play it safe and just schedule an appointment for the installation.

Thanks for the detailed answer.
