How to get a WiFi 6 compatible router?
I am currently on the Internet 45 plan and am in the process of upgrading my home electronics / phones to WiFi 6 compatible devices. What do I need to do to get an upgraded router / gateway?

Internet 45... you would need to purchase a WIFI 6 router and place behind the 210 gateway.
ATT has only model with WIFI 6 AX wireless, that is the 320. The model is for direct fiber FTTP only. The unit has a build in ONT but does not have a GREEN DSL port. For customers on Uverse based internet of ADSL2+ (best speed of 18 or less) or VDSL FTTN (speeds of 25 to 100) the 210 is the newest model gateway available. The 210, 599 and 5268 are dual band wifi with (4) T100/T1000 ethernet ports.
You have the best ATT offers until ATT upgrades your area with direct fiber. With over 15 million residential addresses already on fiber and 7 million being added in 2021-2022 should have 22 million fiber addresses available start of 2023. This should be about 40% of all ATT hardwired 21 state footprint.

I have AT&T Fiber Gigabyte plan for a long time, how can I upgrade to wifi 6? I believe that as long as I've been a customer my equipment should be updated.

The easiest ways are upgrade to internet 2000 or internet 5000 if available (more money per month)
OR purchase a unit with Wi-Fi 6 and place behind your current gateway (spend your money all at once to get your desire).
It should be noted there are customers with ATT BGW 320 having Wi-Fi 6 AND still purchase their own equipment for better coverage normally a mesh system.

So AT&T has no customer appreciation? Perhaps Cox Cable would offer a new system with updates.

I assume that Internet 2000 would be 2 GB? That would overkill. I'm happy with 1 GB, but electronics should be updated when updates are available. I have to have an extender at the other end of the house, which I guess is now called Mesh, but it's a direct line that runs around the house and in the back wall so I can Ethernet.

I suppose that’s a matter of opinion. On one hand Att forces a fee based CPE on you that’s substandard, my opinion, and then when a customer reaches a level of frustration that’s intolerable, recommend a personal solution. So when people have issues with WiFi on Att Internet, I just try to get them to end of the story as quickly as possible. On the other hand their cheap solution probably isn’t enough of an issue for a significant population to cause people to walk away from the service.
And yes, cable allows more freedom if you can manage home network on your own.

Canceled service and all wishes were fulfilled. They contacted me at the last possible minute and offered me all of the perks of a new customer.
