Fixed Wireless Internet. Available but cannot sign up.
To start with I have been years without internet because AT&T is the only service provider in my area and they decided not to upgrade my area to fiber. Now they roll out Fixed Wireless Internet which is great news, but wait there is more. When I attempt to sign up no luck. I wrote it off as poor location once again. However now a friend of mine within less than a mile signed up and had service installed. When the tech came he said it was the best signal strength he has seen yet and my friend is actually seeing 25mbs download speeds. The tech told him we live 3 miles from the tower in our area. There is no reason why I cannot get service where I live but when I call I get the same ole we are putting you on a list to be called back when its available and we will look into it. That was at the first of November and not the first update despite how many times I call. There has to be some way AT&T can either send someone out or speed this process up.

The only possible answer would be number 2. I say this because there are address north, south, east, and west of me being able to sign up for this service so it not being available where I am is just not possible. As I mentioned in my first comment my friend is less than a mile (0.25 or a mile maximum as a crow flies) and the tech said it was the best signal he has seen. I used him as an example due to his proximity to me. It is also worth mentioning that my father was interested in this service and can sign up online with no issues, however his neighbors on each side (within 100 yards) cannot sign up. There is clearly a flaw in the system. To tell someone the answer will come apparent in 2 more years of waiting is a joke.

I had a similar issue. I can see the tower outside my window and AT&T will not send someone out for a site survey because I can get AT&T Uverse Internet instead. Problem is the Uverse Internet is 768 kb/s and I have 1.5 mb/s DSL. So they won't even let me have it. They said that they are trying to get the uverse availability removed from my address before their system will allow them to send me a site survey and that was 1 1/2 months ago. I wish you luck.

That is a shame honestly. I understand that it is a new program and there are going to be flaws but at that point you should be able to call and talk to someone and get some sort of results. It just so happens that as I was leaving my house today an AT&T tech was parked by my driveway so I spoke with him. He said that he is the one that installs the Fixed Wireless Internet and checks the signal. He told me that it was definitely available where I live but he cant do anything about it until he gets the go ahead from AT&T. So I suppose I will sit here and wait.

Have you heard of 4G LTE Installed internet? Might be a better option for you. I'm giving ATT a few more weeks to get their act together then i'm switching myself.
You are right it is indeed a shame that these people are treating long time customers such as myself in this manner. Once i leave their business i'll never ever come back for any reason and i'll always make sure all my friends and family know what they have done to me. Wish you luck.

Sorry for the late reply I have been out of the country. I still have yet to hear anything from AT&T despite messaging them privately. I have called again and received the same treatment. Once again I talked to an AT&T tech in my area that I know personally. He also assured me that there is no reason why I cant get the service but until AT&T "Green Lights" my address he cant do anything. Let me know how your experience with the 4g installed service if you decide to switch.

We had the same run-around until one week ago ( notice it's a new year, maybe new systems? or because the CAF grant had location restrictions that have been lifted? ).
We received the Fixed Wireless postcard and we can see the AT&T tower flashing outside our window, and have 4-5 bars on our AT&T cell phones.
Last year, they were saying we were in yellow instead of green, referred to the back office, etc... Now, a week ago they had no problem getting us a install date. On install, we are 2.6 miles from tower, over 20Mbps download, simply amazing considering our previous fixed wireless provider was giving us a spotty 1Mbps connection. Now the only problem is going to be trying to manage how much data we consume given the cap.
NOTE : We did need to talk to a escalation support engineer to get the install date, maybe the combo of it being a new year and talking to a escalation engineer did the trick?

I'm having the same issue. 3 neighbors triangulate me within 1/2 mile can get it but not me. I even own property that joins one of them. ATT phone support is a joke. I have called multiple times and given up.

This is basically exactly what I'm dealing with! This is a joke! How does AT&T not care that they are losing business?
