Available internet speed on the south side of Chicago

I live on the 9600 block of Peoria St. Why is the fastest internet speed available in my area is 5 mbps at 45 dollars a month. This is a rip-off to be charging people 45 dollars a month for early 1990 internet speed. When other areas have fiber for the same cost. I am so disappointed in AT&T.

Please fix this ASAP AT&T. I am a long term customer of your cellular service and home service in a different town and I have relocated to Chicago but had to go with Comcast giga service.

again so disappointed

Internet 5 means your over 1.5 miles from a central office using ADSL2+... the longer the copper distance, the lower the speeds offered.

ADSL2+ has a best speed of 18/1 if within 3000 feet (about 5 city blocks or less) Around 20 million addresses within ATT 21 state footprint has ADSL2+ option with 14+ million having direct fiber and 27 million having UVERSE FTTN with speeds of 100, 75, 50, 25 depending on copper distance after fiber VRAD.

In the words of realtors... location, location, location

It has been almost 2 years since this post & AT&T still hasn’t gotten around to bringing its fiber service to the south side of Chicago, which is acutely disappointing.

What’s even more ridiculous is that AT&T hasn’t adjusted the pricing of their legacy services to reflect the sheer irrelevance in today’s Internet age. I pay $77 per month for 55 MBps download speeds- the same price I paid over a decade ago when it was considered relatively fast.

My bill for Comcast 1GBps is $85 per month. That’s right. For an additional $8, I’m getting almost TWENTY TIMES the download speed on Comcast.

I’ve had AT&T service for decades, including multiple mobile lines, TV service, & Internet bundled. It truly feels like AT&T is robbing its customers.

So if you have Comcast why come here 2 years later and complain? Move on
