Are you a Customer Self Install (CSI), where equipment was sent for you to hookup yourself? If so, did you follow directions concerning date & time to connect gateway? Only one wall outlet in your residence will have service. If you don't have a clearly marked data jack, you should try any other available jacks to see if a signal is present. If you can't get service at any jack, then there's a connection issue from the outside NID to the inside jacks. You'll have to contact 800.288.2020 and request service; there will be an additional charge for a failed CSI, and the wait times will likely be two hours or more.
