Running Internet Through Coax

Hi,

I self-installed AT&T internet today, via a CAT5 cable between the AT&T wall jack and the provided gateway.  My house does not have ethernet wall ports however, only coax.  I was wondering if it's possible to route the internet through the house to the coax ports, or if I need to install ethernet ports throughout the house?

Thanks!

You can't extend ethernet through coax. You might have success using one of the powerline adapters on the market, which provide ethernet through the home's electrical wiring.

How's the coax run?  If the coax isn't stapled down use it for a pull wire to pull in your phone cable.  Open basement, easy job, finished basement or no basement, more of a challenge.

Hi @MVorel, we are happy to answer your questions on extending your internet throughout your home.

As Community Forums Ace @davemize stated, you can't extend ethernet through coax.

You have however, a number of options to extend your internet to other areas of your home

1. Connecting via WiFi from your gateway.

If distance is an issue, we recommend WiFi extenders. Expand your home      Wi-Fi coverage and reduce signal weak spots and dead zones. The AT&T        Smart Wi-Fi Extender utilizes state-of-the-art mesh technology to expand        your home Wi-Fi and cover locations with a weak Wi-Fi signal.

2. You can run ethernet cabling throughout your home.

We recommend cat 5/6 cabling to wall outlets.

Hope this helps with your connections needs, let us know if you have any additional concerns.
