Relocation of gateway inside home without relocating fiber interface.

I am fortunate enough to have the fiber 1000 installation at my residence where glass fiber extends into my house from the node.  However a multi week renovation will require that my gateway be unhooked/moved.  Is it possible to simply protect and leave the powered fiber interface in its current location and run an extended Cat5/6 cable to the relocated Arris gateway until the remodel (hardwood floors and trim replaced) can be completed?

Short answer yes, CAT5 is good, CAT6 is overkill.  If you're just getting cable and installing the ends, make sure you get the right ones.  Might want to get a premade they come in a lot of lengths.

Thanks for the feedback as well as the suggestion.  I'm comfortable with cable, connectors, crimping and continuity checkers so I may give it a go to maintain my skill set.
