Internet cable on ground surface
AT&T ran a new Internet cable on the ground surface of 3/4 of our yard greater than 2 months ago, but they have yet to bury the cable or find an alternate route for the cable.
questions: Is this normal practice to run a cable from the corner utility pole, around the side of our house, through the back yard, and around the other side of the house to get to the cable box?
Is there an alternative way for the internet cable to go?
How long does is normally take the internet company to bury the cable?

In most markets ATT uses local contractors to bury wiring, copper or fiber, which requires the tech to create the request.
ATT Buried Hotline Center is Monday to Friday only in Eastern Time zone.
May want to call them to see if a request for burial has been submitted.
In northern states there may be a several month backlog as wiring is not normally buried once ground is frozen. This can take to late May to early June to complete the backlog from December to March.
If no request has been made for burial, a tech will need to be dispatched to create the request…
Call our Buried Wire Center at 800.924.9420 Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 6 p.m. ET. Remember: This number is just for unburied ground cables.

Thank you for the response. However, the other part of my question was do they have to run it through 3/4 of my yard to run the internet cable? The shortest distance from the corner post to the cable box is through the front 1/4 of my yard. However, they’re running the cord all the way 3/4 of the way through the yard (entire backyard and both sides of the yard).

Is it a direct path through the front yard? No driveway or sidewalk(s) to go underneath?
If a bore under an object is required, the company preferred method is to go around... booring is more expensive upfront than fiber wiring and burying, additional as potential of damage to the object such as cracked driveway or sinking ground.
Edit... basement? Where could.have went down one side, mount the NID, fiber into basement, thru basement to gateway location... would require unfinished basement or access drop ceiling.

There is a driveway at the front of the house. No basement. Is there no other way to have home internet than running a cable through 3/4 of a yard?

Sure underneath the drive way, boring… no ideal of cost but if estimate is $800 to go under driveway, are you willing to pay the extra?
Everything is time, money and liability… as ATT is not charging you for the installation or burial cost, they are choosing to perform the work at the lowest cost possible with minimal liability such as repairing / replacing driveway if damaged from boring underneath, therefore around the house. Have seen 600+ feet of fiber around neighbors side across the back of both house then to the house to avoid going under (2) driveways.

Rereading initial statement… corner utility pole… it this an aerial terminal down the pole? If yes, tech should have run a fiber drop from the pole, thru the air, attach to home, then down the front or side of home… avoids the cost of any burial expense, no digging.
