How to setup a router behind the AT&T router

I have a TrendNet TEW-828DRU that I want to setup behind the AT&T router/gateway (Arris NVG589).  Some of the reasons I want this is:

1) Additional security since I'm limited on what I can change on the Arris NVG589

2) I want our devices to use OpenDNS servers for DNS.  The Arris does not allow me to change this setting.

3) My router provides 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz wireless connectivity.  The 5.0GHz connections allow for faster access to local devices especially when I'm backing up computers to my local NAS device.

Any insight into any special setup required for this connectivity to work properly, would be greatly appreciated.

Arris to TrendNet and Uverse devices would use 192.168.1.x IPs.

All devices behind the TrendNet would use 192.168.10.x IPs.

Thanks in advance.

We can certainly help you get that router connected, @CarltonT.

We’ve written a pretty thorough guide on connecting a third party router behind your Gateway. It’s a pretty simple process that mostly involves just plugging in your new router to the Gateway. You’ll then need to access your Gateway settings (usually by logging in to 192.168.1.254) and disable the Wi-Fi from your Gateway, so the two signals won’t interfere with each other. After that, you should be good to go! Depending on what you after, you may have to adjust some port settings, but your router should be online after that.

Let us know if you have any other questions, @CarltonT!
