Cannot connect new iMac to U-Verse wifi

I am trying to connect my new iMac to the wifi. I can see the network, I put in the correct password, but  I get the message that the network cannot be joined. The Mac tells me to move closer (I have my old laptop running the wifi right next to it, so that is not it) or to run the diagnostics which I did but is not helpful. I restarted the router but that does not work either. All our wireless devices are connecting to the wifi with no problem. I eve tried our guest network, but the same thing happens.

Any ideas out there what i could do to make it work?

Below are some things you could try (no guarantee of success):

  • In the Network preferences for your wifi/airport, click Advanced, TCP/IP, make sure the IPv4 setting is "Using DHCP" and click the renew the lease button.
  • In the network wif/airport advanced settings, preferred networks, delete the gateway's wifi ssid if it's there (highlight and click the minus at the bottom of the table to delete).
  • In the gateway, try changing the wifi's channel.
  • Ask for ideas in the Apple Support Communities (Macbook Air) forums.
  • Google search for possible solutions.

Someone else had a similar problem on their macbook air and they said of the suggestions I listed above, that the lease renew solved his problem.

For future reference, what part of "that" worked?  The renew lease for you too?
