Why can't I disable the DNS Error Assist feature?

A quick search for "Disable DNS Error Assist" in this forum will show numerous results with people frustrated that they cannot disable this unwanted feature. Despite some of the threads being marked as solved, the solution does not actually work. If a user opts out of this feature, nothing happens.  For example, below you can see from my screenshot below that I've opted out and yet if I type in a bad domain like http://golf.ocm it still redirects me to yahoo search. Please fix this.

We would love to try to help, @webuser707.

Have you also gone and changed the DNS Error Assist setting in your myAT&T? You can do so by following the instructions in the solution we've linked.

DNS Error Assist can take 48 hours to reflect any changes to the opt in/out status, and you may need to try rebooting your Gateway by unplugging the power from the back of the Gateway.

We hope this helps.

Thanks for the help.  What worked for me was to factory reset the gateway modem. Restarting it alone didn't work for me, maybe it should have but I had to do the factory reset. My gateway is an ATT branded Arris BGW, so I had to hold the red button on the back for a while. Just throwing this out there for others who have already tried waiting 48 hours and also tried restarting the gateway.    I'll update this thread again if the DNS Error Assist turns itself back on.

@webuser707 Sadly the DNS error assist turned itself back on again. My att account settings still show that I've already opted out of this unwanted feature. Factory resetting the gateway did not work this time. Apparently there is no reliable way to disable DNS Error Assist. Customers beware!
