VPN and Secure work sites - 5268AC FXN Gateway

My Fixed Wireless Internet was brought in today, along with my gateway/modem/wireless Model 5286AC and I didn't check my work sites before the technician left because it never dawned on me that I might have an issue.

I cannot vpn into my companies vpn. It acts like it does and then logs me right out. Same for my secure work sites.

Frankly, I believe this has something to due with the built in firewall. Support couldn't help me. He didn't even know what VPN was. I kid you not.

What they (the sites and my vpn) are ALL telling me is that my session has expired. Every single one, right down the vpn. I can hook up to my old internet or my verizon hotspot and not have this problem. I have cleared cache and cookies. I've rebooted. I've made sure my network isn't public.

They are sending a tech out Friday but who knows if he can fix this. Do any of you have any ideas? I turned off everything I could in the firewall that could possibly be blocking my access. Why do they even have a firewall? And why can't I turn it off? I'm a big girl, I can take care of my own security.

This is the fastest internet I've ever had in my area and I'm on 14 day trial. If I can't use it to work at home the 3 days a week, it's a deal breaker for me. Which is unfortunate.

Thank you

Hi, @rose2192.

Thank you for coming to us with your concerns. You can change your firewall settings, if you would like. You've done a great job by having a technician scheduled. Please let us know how your appointment goes.

VPN is not supported as Fixed Wireless is a private IP address from an upstream router using CG-NAT.

Basically every command sent is from a changing IP address is my understanding.

There is a thread or two about this issue, the workaround is setting up your router behind the 5268 gateway and subscribing to a VPN service from what I recall.

If cancel, still owe the $99 DirecTv contractor installation fee.

I've done quite a bit of research since I posted this. This is a failure on ATT's part. Refreshing an IP address every time you move on a secure web site or platform is contradictory to what every other internet provider does, including Verizon and the very small company called Monster Broadband I was using before. Both of these are Fixed Wireless and I have no trouble doing any of my work from home items on either of these providers.

And while I'm pretty tech savvy, using a vpn to use a vpn kind of sounds....fairly impossible. My VPN program for work is stand alone. I don't even know if I can do this. We'll see what the technician says but I'm fairly certain that he cannot fix this and if I want to keep this internet, I will also need to keep another internet just to work from home.

ATT's engineers really need to work on this. I've seen folks unable to even access their bank accounts. I was going to recommend this service to my neighbor but they aren't tech savvy at all. If they can't get into their secure sites, trying to explain to them how to use their Verizon hot spots will be a nightmare. And they'll be mad at me for the recommendation. 😞

Anyways, I have 12 days to make my decision. Thank you for the above posts.

I saw your post here:

https://forums.att.com/conversations/att-internet-equipment/fixed-wireless-high-packet-loss/5e193b06758fed77cf876d2d?page=5

...mentioning that your problems with secure websites had been resolved. I'm assuming its this problem? I'm having the same issues....mind sharing the resolution?

It was just fixed one day. Then it went back out. Then it was just fixed again. It's nothing we can do on our side, they have to do it on their side. But until then, Kaspersky VPN works very well up to 300MB a day. And it's free unless you need more than that. But if you have VPN for work, it doesn't work obviously. I used my hotspot on my phone for that.

@rose2192 That, unfortunately, matches with what I though you were going to say. Once they get the packet loss issue squared away so I can stay connected to a vpn tunnel it looks like I'm headed in that direction.

Thanks again for the confirmation!
