U-verse Speed Upgrade Possible?
Just had U-verse (ADSL2+) installed this morning to replace our previous DSL (ADSL). Both plans were the 6 Mb, Elite Service. We're getting slightly faster speeds on the U-verse, I assume due to the lower overhead.
I wanted to upgrade to the faster 12 Mb service; sales said the tech would be able to once he was out for the install. Once he was here however, he said his supervisor wouldn't allow it.
Anyways, the homes on either side of us pre-qualify online for the 12 Mb, Max Service. The people over at DSLReports thought the line could support a higher tier but I wanted to get ya'lls opinion on if this. I've attached my current line stats below.

Your max rate down would seem to allow it, but your max rate up looks pretty skimpy. I think there are some loop length rules that they are loathe to violate unless forced. If I were you, I'd click this
U-verse Customer Service link to send a Private Message (PM) to the AT&T customer service team and ask them what your options are with these stats.. You can expect a reply via return PM (the blue envelope
in the upper right hand corner of this site, next to your name and avatar) in a business day or three.
This is a group of U-verse service specialists who are knowledgeable about U-verse and will stay with your problem until the end (instead of forgetting about it when the phone hits the cradle). Speed things up by including your Billing Account Number, and the best time and way to reach you.

Moving up one profile should be OK.... Extra $5 per month charge.
Besides the max sync on download/upload need to be concerned about SN margins.
For ADSL2+ minimum is 6.0, desired is 10+, your current 16 on d/u.
If profile changed, need tier 2 to make change.... Even a tech has to chat to tier2, your upload should go to about .9. More and more the concern seems to be about uploading speeds not downloading speeds. Please be aware that ADSL2+ max upload is 1M on an 18M profile while VDSL Max Plus is 18/1.5 over provisioned see 20+/1.9+
Unless area is scheduled for upgrade to Uverse VDSL, or bonded adsl2+ (two lines) the Max profile will likely be your limit.

Thank both of you for the quick response!
I sent a PM to the U-verse Customer Service Team, hopefully I'll hear back soon. I'd love to move up to the 12 Mb, Max profile. Every little bit on the upload speed helps as well.
My street does have U-verse VDSL. I assume since three houses down and closer to the VRAD are able to get U-verse TV. Unfortantely our home and the last few on the street are too far.
I am intrigued by the bonded ADSL2+. We still have an active DSL line running to the home since I wanted to be sure the U-verse line was stable before disconnecting. I assume that pair could be converted to U-Verse ADSL2+ and bonded fairly easily? Is that something that has to be green-lit for an area or done on a case-by-case basis?

So I called the install tech this morning to get some more information. I just heard back from him this afternoon. Turns out the people he contacted and denied the profile change were Tier 2 Support.
If my line stats seem decent and people further away from the CO/RT (not sure which serves me) are able to qualify for the 12 Mb profile, I'm confused as to why I cannot. Is there some way to esalate this or have I hit a dead end?

Thanks David! Looks like the 12 Mb profile you pushed to modem is working great. I'll keep an eye on the stabilty the next couple days. Line stats took a little bit of a hit (running about 8 dB down and 9.5 dB up) but hasn't had to retrain yet. Current speed test shows 12-13 Mb down and 0.75 up. Overall, happy with the change to U-verse from ADSL.
