With the Netgear, you want to have it setup so it receives an IP address automatically. Afterwards, you want to make sure your Netgear is receiving a public IP for the WAN IP instead of a private IP. If it is still receiving a private IP, make sure you have DMZ configured correctly and restart your equipment. Here is a post that goes over how to setup DMZ mode. 

If still showing a Strict NAT afterwards, the uPnP settings on  your Netgear are not achieving the desired goal. Try resetting the Netgear and setting it up again.

I have my Netgear router set in router mode. Do I need to set it to bridge mode in order to get better performance for gaming? I'm really confused. 

If you're trying to get rid of the NAT restrictions, then you want your Netgear in router mode.

Ok. That's what I thought. The directions that were posted from AT&T Support talks about bridging a gateway with a router. Is that what I need to do?

Yes. You want to follow the instructions on the link provided above to put it in DMZ mode.

Ok. Following your directions worked. Is the gateway less secure now because I configured it for DMZ mode? 

No.  What DMZplus mode does is cause the Gateway to do these things:

1) When the selected device requests an IP address via DHCP, the Gateway will pass on to it the public address it has received via its own DHCP request from the AT&T Network.  This makes the router act as if it is the Gateway router (i.e. will handle NAT to the public address and process returning packets).  You really should change the subnet IP addresses to 192.168.2.xxx or something so that it is clear by looking at an IP address where it got it's IP address.

2) All unsolicited traffic from the Internet (that doesn't have a Port Forwarding rule to handle it) will be sent to the DMZplus device.  Again, letting the router act as if it were the actual Gateway.

3) Other devices can still be connected to the Gateway and the Gateway will handle NAT for them.. The Gateway will not pass traffic between the DMZplus device and the other devices in your network.

It is typical to call configuring a gateway modem/router to pass traffic through without processing putting it in "Bridge" mode.  Since that's somewhat what happens here, some people call it that.  Or some people want to do "bridge" mode and this is as close as you get.

Some Routers that aren't gateways can be put in Switch/Access Point mode where they perform level 2 switching between the interfaces rather than routing them.  Unfortunately some of the manufacturers (largely Apple) call this "bridge mode" as well.

So... I tend to avoid the term.

Ok. Thanks for the explanation. I have another question. I have a windows 10 computer. I use Google Chrome. Almost evryday, my browser shows a DNS Probe Error. This is caused by a temporary loss of internet connection. This happens several times a day. How do I fix this problem?

To answer that question we'd have to see where the connection between Chrome (on your PC) and the DNS server that has the answer is breaking down.  If your Windows 10 PC is wireless, it could be that you're temporarily losing that.

My windows 10 pc is using a wireless connection with my router. Do I need to manually change the DNS address?
