Slow uplink when using work VPN

I am curious if AT&T throttles our uplink speeds when tunneling through a VPN. My speeds are fine when I am not on my work VPN, but whenever I go through my work VPN, it appears that my uplink gets throttled. I don't believe my work would be doing this.

the reason for a vpn is to secure everything in or out and can cause slowdowns, your not the first to have this issue, my vpn does the same things i dont think companies slow down through the vpn pourposley its just the nature of vpn.

Thanks for the reply "Constructive". I understand the security of and believe in that security of the VPN services. I occasionally have the need to upload files to the network for work. Today's example were two files (1st was 18,442 kbyte .csv file, 2nd was 183,197 kbyte .csv file). These are flat text files and should be free from too much scrutiny by the vpn. It took about 10 minutes to get these files uploaded today. This is not acceptable. Time is money and so every delay is preventing me from efficiently working.
