Red X error message on TV screen

Our power flashed off last night. When I went to turn on the tv attached to the main box this morning there was an error message with a red X. Choose “Troubleshoot U-verse and Internet” for assistance was the message

We can help restore your television service, @jzeleznak4

When a Red X, without a number, appears after a power outage, it is the receiver’s way of letting us know it had trouble reconnecting to the service after its reboot.

There are a few steps basic we can try to get you up and running:

  1. Restart your receiver by holding the power button for 10 seconds, then press it one more time to initiate the restart.
  2. Restart your gateway by unplugging for 2 minutes. This will interrupt service that may still be working on other TVs.
  3. Quick check of the cables connecting the Gateway and Receiver; make sure nothing is loose.

If these initial steps do not restore programming, try a Non-Disaster Recovery.  This step can help restore a DVR without losing any recordings.

Another resource available is our Troubleshoot and Resolve Tool. Once logged in to your account, it will provide equipment specific troubleshoot and can even help set up technician visit if needed.
