Problem with bandwidth - Gig Fiber Internet 1000

Recently subscribed to Internet 1000 service in Durham, NC.  I am unable to get anything higher than about ~185Mbps on my machine, nothing close to the 1000Mbps promised.  I've got a hard line with confirmed 1000 connection between the laptop NIC (ThinkPad T470s) and the AT&T provisioned switch/hub.  Tried different machines with hardlines (CAT5), all ThinkPads though.  Is there anyone in Durham, NC with confirmed ~1000Mbps as seen on their home computer?  The AT&T tech showed up with some AT&T provisioned network testing device.  Of course his device indicated ~960Mbps, but I have not seen anything close.  Thinking about cancelling service since I don't want to lock into a contract if service is highly questionable.

Hey, @electromagnetic_ice. We'd be glad to help get your internet speeds up to par!

  • How many devices do you have connected to your internet when you're running these tests? Your bandwidth and speeds are divided between all devices being used on the network, so for accurate test results you should disconnect your other devices.

  • Some devices only allow up to a certain speed due to their firmware, so we'd recommend trying the tests with several different devices.

Beyond that, we'd highly recommend reading through our article on Optimizing Internet Speeds for more tips to try to improve each device's speeds. Give it a shot and let us know how it goes!
