Parental Control - Smart Home Manager

With my previous internet carrier, I could log into the router setup and set schedules for each device connected to my Wifi.  For example, the Xbox automatically disconnected at midnight on weekends and earlier on school nights, as did all the cell phones.  Before switching to AT&T last week, I engaged in an online chat session with a sales rep (Jonathan) and specifically asked about this.  He assured me I would be able to do this with AT&T and that when the technician installed the new system, he would show me how.  Well, the tech knew nothing about it, and when I called Support, I was transferred to a supervisor who told me that this was not possible!  I had saved and printed the online chat session, so I referred to it again and contacted AT&T a few hours later to ask again, this time via chat.  The chat rep (Glenn) told me that the AT&T Smart Home Manager app is being updated THIS WEEK and that it will have the capabilities I asked for.  Can anyone confirm that this is true?  I have searched the internet for news releases about this but found nothing.  My fear is that this was just another chat rep trying to get a 5-star survey rating.  I have 30 days to cancel my service without penalty, and if I am not able to control the devices connected to my Wifi as I was promised then I want to cancel and go back to my previous carrier.

Hanson6NC: the conclusion was that no, the AT&T modem or "gateway" provided cannot pause the internet or set time limits for users. I asked for a different modem but was told the one I had was the only one that works with my fiber internet service. I did learn that I could install a 3rd party router, though, which does everything I want. I purchased and installed a Netgear Nighthawk Router. So the Wifi comes from AT&T but filters through my router. The router comes with an app called Disney Circle which is great! I can see and control what my kids are doing on the internet (Xbox, phone, PC, etc.) whether I am home or not, and I can set time limits for various devices and types of activity, and pause their connection whenever I want.

This is absolutely ridiculous!!!  I pay $110/mo and I cannot even control the times devices are on the internet!!!!!!   Verizon Fios worked 100 times better.  Great parental controls.  Unfortunately, no Verizon Fios in Charlotte

I couldn’t agree more. Our VZ Fios in NY had was way more customer friendly including family  scheduling capabilities - is this an impasse? Will we get the capability?  I am told using a 3rd party router (which should be reimbursed) depletes the speed and consistency of the internet connection.

This is an issue that i have been butting heads with at&t for a while with. Was given the promise that my 5268ac modem could use the parental features, and it can not, and I get told that my area only has two options for modems, both from 2015. Can anyone confirm if 3rd party router/modem will throttle the internet connection?

Amazing, here it is November 2019 and they still don't have that feature. After reading ATT's website stating that 3800 HGV-B 2wire routers DID provide parental controls, it is a LIE! I log into the "smart manager" and basically, it's the same info (or less) that I would see if I were logging into 192.168.1.254.

We could set up parental control on the ATT wifi gateway via the smart home manager.  After login, go to network and click create a profile, there you will see schedule and devices. Rest you know what to do.

Thank you for contributing to our Community Forums, @drnr1!

We do offer parental controls through our Smart Home Manager App

Once you have created a profile and added the devices, managing their internet usage is easy.

We look forward to interacting with your more,

This issue seems not to be fully understood by ATT. If a user creates a profile in Smart Home Manager it "Enables" Parental control on the "Modem". If you log into the modem and "disable" parental control. Your profile on Smart Home Manager gets disabled. Why is this happening?

Can someone provide a sensible explanation

Because the Smart Home Manager operates in large part by telling the "modem" (actually a Gateway, with a modem and a router combined) what to do.  If someone reconfigures the Gateway after Smart Home Manager has configured it, then those settings are lost until reapplied.

A factory reset of the Gateway would also render such settings moot.  Physical security of the Gateway is required to actually control access.  Change the System password of the Gateway and then lock it up (but make sure it still has airflow).

I have done a factory reset and I am still facing the issue. Your recommendation has not been successful for me
