NVG 510 connection issues

I've had my modem for what, almost 3 years now? No real problems with it specifically until this month. Suddenly I've been experiencing my Xbox live shutting down in the middle of games, or websites on my iPad refusing to load. I know the NVG510 has issues, but these seem different than what I've read about.

The connection drops, the NVG lights stay solid green, my devices are still connected to the network, but nothing happens. If the device was not connected at the time, I can't connect as it demands my password over and over. The only way to fix it is to unplug the modem. It's gotten bad enough that I unplug it 3-4 times a day.

Anybody know what I should do? I haven't tried a factory reset yet. I'm not a tech guy, everything I know I learned from the owners manual. I'm scared I'll break it in my ignorance.

@Somerandomstuff See SomeJoe's great wireless interference thread:

http://forums.att.com/t5/Features-and-How-To/How-to-Minimize-Wireless-Interference/m-p/2303003#M1138

Also see the SJ post:

Please Read for a Potential Solution

For many people, the DHCP problems with the 2Wire/Pace/Motorola routers can be solved by configuring the RG as follows:

1. Go to http://192.168.1.254/ and find the RG's wireless configuration page.

2. Change the setting "Wi-Fi Protected Setup" to Disabled.

3. Change the setting "Authentication Type" to WPA2-PSK (AES).

4. Click the "Save" button at the bottom.

5. This procedure may ask for your RG's password. The default password for your RG is printed on a sticker on the side of the RG (3600HGV, 3800HGV-B, 3801HGV and NVG589/510) or on a white sticker on the backup battery (i3812V).

Disabling WPS should help with the DHCP timeout issue and general wireless connection problems.

Setting authentication specifically to WPA2-PSK/AES improves connection reliability on Macs and other Apple products.

Good luck 😉

Had to reset again this afternoon. Haven't messed with anything yet to see what happened. All 7 of my devices just couldn't connect to the router, despite green lights across the board. Only way to fix it was to reset, nothing could access it, You think it's wireless interference? Does it pick another channel after a reset, because it was fine after the reset, until it will inevitably die again. I do live in an apartment complex, so there is a lot of traffic around.

Oh, I was already on WPA. I'll make a longer password for WPA2, though I'm not sure that makes a difference.

Maybe I should get a 30' Ethernet cable to check if the Internet works through the cable? Hadn't thought to try that yet. I'll have to buy a longer cable or tear my entertainment center apart.

Here is the diagnostic log from just after the reset. Not sure if that helps. I think where the dates turn to 0s is where the post-reset portion begins?

Resolved! Looks like the NVG's antenna failed, but the Ethernet still worked fine. I put it in passthrough and hooked up a router. This helped, specifically question #6.
