nintendo switch not showing up on router device list

im trying to set up port forwarding for my nintendo switch and there is no switch to be found in my device listing, so i cant apply the ports to the thing. it could be one of the many unknown devices, but theres like 30 and im too lazy to check all of them

Don't look at me, I'm not checking them for you.  😁

But seriously, you'll see MAC addresses in the device list.  Somewhere on the Switch (or the box if you still have it) you should be able to find the MAC address of the Switch.

alright, so after setting up the stuff to the right device, it told me that the port 7547 was reserved, so after making another configuration that goes as a udp from 1-7536 and 7538-50000, it told me this exactly, “The port range 7460 - 50000 in the service conflicts with the reserved port 7547” which is where im confused since port 7547 is nowhere to be used. a quick reply would be nice, thanks

Sounds like the gateway isn't forgetting your previously entered ports (this presumes you've deleted all previous entries).  What happens if you power off the gateway and then power it on, do you get the same error?

That being said, opening up all the ports like Nintendo seems to suggest opens you to multiple issues.  One, you run into all of the ports AT&T reserves (see THIS) but more importantly you open your network to people who are always scanning for open ports to get onto your network.

HERE is what seems (I don't own a Switch or ever installed one) to be a good source of info on forwarding just the necessary ports.

alright so i fixed the issue last mentioned, but upon connecting it gave me nat d so i tried the article you gave and neither of the port ranges it gave worked due to them conflicting with gateway ports. im slowly giving up, but i am truly tired of having ping spikes every five seconds in every online game i play.

One option is to get a third party router that supports UPnP and connect that to your AT&T gateway (which model do you have, btw?).

What exactly doesn't work on the Nintendo that requires all this rigamarole?

I have same gateway and switch and hear no complaints.

Not finding what you're looking for?
