Is the AT&T U-Verse 5031NV Wifi Gateway both a modem and router

I'm new to U-Verse Internet, so bear with me.  Previously I had both a modem and a separate router.

My Question, is the AT&T U-Verse 5031NV Wifi Gateway, both a modem and router, combined?

Or do I need a separate router, as well?

It is a modem and a pretty basic router.  If you don't have high expectations of a router, it may do you fine.  However, if you need more than it provides, you can connect your own router behind it.

A short list of things that might make you want to connect your own device:

  • Dual Band WiFi
  • Better range on WiFi
  • UPnP (if you really want that)
  • Time of Day (or other) restrictions

Do you have a set of instructions for setting up a cascaded router for a 5031NV-30?  Thanks
