Internet Speed

I live in the Dallas, Texas area and i've noticed that other servicve providers offer faster internet speeds than the 18MB Uverse speed I currently have for comparable pricing. Is there any way I can get a faster connection with Uverse?

Thanks

Gigapower just became available in the Dallas area.  Expensive but fast.

As Skeeterintexas mentioned they are firing up Gigapower in Dallas at 300 Mbps symmetric if I'm not mistaken, but as mentioned, it aint cheap.

You might also be eligible for the 45 Mbps service depending on your location.

I believe both services would require new equipment (gateway and NID) and a new service run to your home, pair bonding for the 45 Mbps or fiber for the Gigapower.

Thanks for your response. I must admit, most of that was way over my head, but I do know that I have the 3801. That said, i'm having internet issues in certain areas of the house. My house isn't that big (around 2,600 sq ft), but 3 rooms away from where the router is, the connectivity is bad. Would boosting my speed up from 18M to the 45M help with this? Or, is this an equipment issue? If it is an equipment issue, can AT&T provide something, or do I have to buy some third party device? Any help is much appreciated.

Upgrading your High Speed Internet bandwidth will likely not do a thing for your devices far from the Residential Gateway (RG).

My advice to improve the wireless service in places well away from the RG is to purchase a consumer Wireless Access Point or Wireless Router and configure the router as an access point (which is described in post 13 in this thread) and set it up closer to the rooms having issues; you just have to connect it to the RG with an Ethernet cable.

The wireless in your consumer router may be enough better than the RG that you can just disable its wireless feature and go with just your router.  Or, you can set them on separate channels (1, 6 or 11, not on automatkic) and let them both work.  You can give them the same SSID and security settings and your client devices can move between them to whichever is working the best.

If you wish, you can get a dual-band Wireless device, which would allow you to work on the less crowded 5.0 GHz band.

Sounds like your issue is wireless, in which case going from 18 to 45 will not help.

Depending on what services you have you might be able to relocate your RG (3801) to a more central location in your home to improve wireless coverage (a chargeable service call). If there's enough wire, you could try just raising the RG higher up like on top of a bookcase.

It's pretty common though that customers will just buy their own router/access point and connect it to the RG.

If you decide to get a router/access point, you'll find plenty of help, here on the forum, for setting it up. If all you want is better wireless the setup is actually pretty simple.
