I Have An Intermittent Disconnect/Reconnect With AT&T U-verse ISP

ipconfig all.jpg

A disconnection happened and these are the stats for the 4m:34s it's online.

Summary of Noteworthy Events

http://n1.netalyzr.icsi.berkeley.edu/summary/id=369839a0-15435-d6a458ac-97aa-4074-9e69

I have uploaded a couple images to help facilitate any ideas.

The intermittent disconnects/reconnects usually happen while surfing the web or playing online video games, i.e League of Legends/Alien Swarm/Left4Dead2

It's not frequent, but when it does happen, it's quite a nuisance.

My modem is the 5268AC. When the d/c happens, my ethernet light flashes like bonkers or just goes out, but no other service is affected. Wi-fi is not a problem, broadband 1&2 checks out, and the service light is stable. There is also no anti-virus blocking any traffic.

I have the necessary ports open, and programs allowed through the firewall.

I am connected via ethernet.

My last ISP before AT&T was Mediacom.

Never had a intermittent disconnects/reconnect with Mediacom, the only problem with them is their service offered in our local residential area was beyond poor.

I am also using OpenDNS

  • Preferred DNS Server: 208.67.222.222
  • Alternate DNS server: 208.67.222.220

I am running on the 45mb/s plan and bundled with DirecTV, and yet my connection is unreliable.

Perhaps I've overlooked something as I do not have a trained eye for these types of situations.

I am quite technologically savvy, but not a fully trained professional.

I would love to have a professional diagnose my problem and provide a simple solution.

Thank you for taking your time to help!

Thoughts?

If there is any other information required, I'd be happy to oblige.

You're not the only one.

Look at the other posts on the forum, same exact issue, though AT&T is denying that it's on their end so far.  "Our tests look fine"...

IPv6 is not the issue even though you have it enabled.  You will be instructed to disable IPv6, and it won't help.  Seriously, AT&T, we've already tried this.

Hi @ChrisMMayer,

Sorry to read of your loss of service. In the past, modem environment was the issue causing the drops. Items like surge protectors, speakers and other electronics near the modem and impact service. Check out this article, it may help.

If you continue to have loss of service, feel free to download our myATT app from the app store or text myATT to 8758 to receive a link to download it here. It is much faster than calling in and you can troubleshoot in the palm of your hand.

I have the same issue. I'm sure they will treat us like we don't know anything and say it is because we are running a hair dryer in the bathroom. $50 a month and is nothing but crap. Thank goodness my phone has a hotspot.

@ChrisMMayer   On all Uverse RGs, IPv6 causes disconnects, rebooting and browsing problems (Internet).  This is the classic 2wire/Pace/Arris problem, browsing and Internet use.

Disable IPv6 in all Uverse RGs info here:

https://forums.att.com/t5/Equipment/Slow-connection-using-Google-Facebook-and-certain-sites-after/m-p/3860323#M382

If a 2wire/Pace/Arris RG (3800/3801/5031/5268) click the Go here link at top of the orange globe on the page of the link above.

Make sure to also disable IPv6 in Win local area and wireless connection properties.

Good luck 😉

Chris

I'll keep troubleshooting and I will check out these articles. I will post my results/conclusion when I have the time to do these necessary steps.

Also why would an IPV6 cause such an issue? Any ideas?

I have done all this stuff too, have the same issues, had tech out several times and online several times.  I am giving up and going to Ooma for my phone, my phone bill will be $5-6.  I have gone to Roku for TV and I love it, much better than directv and free!!!  And for internet I am switching to dslextreme, which will run me att's "promotional" price (what it was before they jacked up my bill) and I get a higher speed and no data caps!  GOOD-BYE ATT!!!  I live in a small town and these services are available to me.  You probably have even better options. When you do not care about your cutomers you soon have none.

@ChrisMMayer  It's just the way Uverse RGs are handling IPv6 requests is incorrect (something about packaging them as IPv4 requests) and they are refused and it's keeps on trying, til it will or won't finally try actual IPv4. Smiley Surprised
