How do I turn off wifi in the Arris BGW210?

I want the combined modem-router's wifi off at all times except when I want to stream to my TV set. So ...

(1) How do I get to the configuration screens, and

(2) How do I turn the wifi on and off?

I also need to do this. AT&T needs to allow security configuration of this modem. I also need to be able to turn off SSID advertisement. The lack of functionality that AT&T has left it with is a serious problem.

@joenet two options I can think of....

The first is to simply unplug the ac power when not in use... no gateway, no internet, no wifi.

If need other functions of the gateway to be active, but not broadcasting a wifi network, can turn the wifi off / on using a hardwired (ethernet) connection from a pc or laptop.

If have a newer model with Smart Home Manager app could create profile that limit usage by time frame. Also off at certain times, on at certain times.

We're happy to help, @joenet

You can hide your SSID by following these instructions. Please make sure you know your wi-fi name and password as you will have to enter them manually to add any devices once this is done.

As for toggling your wi-fi on/off, this can be done per device by pausing it on our Smart Home Manager. It will automatically resume after the selected time frame and can be resumed early at any point.

You can do this by going to Network > Connected Devices > click the device name and it will have a pause option and you set a duration of 30 minutes, 2 hours, or 24 hours.

Let us know if you have any other questions!

Previous replies have danced around the original question. I want to turn it off permanently the wifi while keeping all router functions intact. Can it be done?

I believe that I did successfully get SSID advertising turned off. I would like to be able to limit Internet access at night to a couple of devices that I have whitelisted (I have a nocturnal teenager in the house). I do this with the wired connection to her desktop computer at layer three since I have a firewall inside the AT&T device. How can I do this without purchasing another WiFi router?

Stopping the SSID from broadcasting doesn't turn off the wifi transmitter. I want to turn off the transmitter.

I have my Wi-Fi disabled on my BGW-210.  None of my Wi-Fi tools are indicating any trace of it broadcasting.

@joenet , there is no way to turn Wi-Fi on and off dynamically on the Gateway (short of a script that navigates the pages and executes the changes for you), and definitely not on a per client basis (though I suppose if you changed the SSID dynamically with that hypothetical script, you could have both SSIDs on your devices, and not give the passphrase for the second to the kids).

Or you could get a Wi-Fi router that has client time of day blocking, etc. and hook it up between your clients and the Gateway.
