How to To change your Wi-Fi Password or Network Name (SSID) Manually
- Start by going to http://192.168.1.254
Note: you may be required to enter your Device Access Code in order to continue. The default Device Access Code can be found on the side of your gateway (this is not the same as your Wi-Fi password). - Go to Home Network > Wireless
- Either change the Network Name (SSID) or the Password
- Changes can be made to your Wi-Fi name under Network Name (SSID)
- To change the password, change the Security from WPA-Default Key to WPA – PSK option then type your desired password in the Key section
- Save all changes made to your device

When setting up a new Wi-Fi password, don't use your name, address, birth date or other things that make it easy for someone to identify you.
Once you have successfully changed your Wi-Fi password (Key), you may need to reconnect all your Wi-Fi devices using the new password information.

I changed my network name and password and now both of them show on my devices. I can connect to the new one with the new password and the original one with the old password and they both seem to be working fine. Is this normal?

Hi @steph_g26,
We apologize about the issues. The IP should work for all U-verse gateways, unless it was changed. To find out your gateway address, if you have a Windows computer, you can pull up a command prompt and type in
ipconfig
From there, it should list your gateway, and if you type in that address, it should take you to your gateway. If not, you may not be connected to the gateway. If that is not the case, try resetting the gateway by pressing and holding the red reset button on the back for 20 or more seconds.

I have had to change my SSID twice already. My husband was having issues connecting with a laptop he had had prior to us getting a new device when we changed it the first time he was able to connect. Now I have a new laptop and can I could not connect but once we changed the SSID again it worked fine for the rest of the day. I logged of and tried to log back on this morning and I got the same error message I reiceved the first time unable to connect. I know it's not my laptop because I can connect to my wifi at work with this new laptop. Can someone please tell me what I need to do or what can be done to resolve this. I shouldn't have to keep changing my SSID everytime.
Thank you

@acturner18 Might try using Google DNS in the laptop. Many devices find they can connect using Google DNS. It bypasses Uverse RG DNS.

Step by step instructions. Good luck 😉

Any other suggestions?

If you cannot connect to 192.168.1.254, it may have been changed to another IP address. If your laptop is windows, command a command window and do a IPCONFIG. Look to see what the value is for your Default Gateway. Try that. Should that fail, you can try a Factory Reset (Unplug Gateway, hold the button in the back in while plugging the power for the Gateway in, continue to hold it for 10-15 seconds after power is restored).
