High ping to Dallas servers

I am in Austin and am getting 80-90 ping to Dallas servers when I should be getting in the 20s. There is something wrong with the routining. Is there anyway for att to look into the routing from Austin to Dallas and fix it?

Hello @kvngrc, thanks for posting, we're happy to help with your ping.

We have some suggestions to make sure you're getting the best connection.

  • Check the number of connected devices. Every device eats up a portion of your bandwidth slowing down your connection. Our Smart Home Manager can show you everything that's connected.
  • Connect directly to the gateway(router) with an ethernet cable if possible. Hardwired connections are faster and less susceptible to interference. If wireless is the only option, check out our tips to improve your wifi.
  • Lastly, if you're having trouble with a slow connection or high ping, running a traceroute test may also help isolate where the problem is.

Please let us know if this helps improve your ping or if there are any further questions we can help with.

I don’t know the IP to the servers I’m getting high ping to in Dallas. But when I go to speedtest.net I get 75

ping, same as I do in Valorant, when I choose Centurylink to run the test to. Is there anyway I can get information you need from that? Every other server I tried on there had 20-30 ping.

Hello @kvngrc

We understand that you're questioning numbers when if comes to Ping. Are you experiencing any specific network issues? If so, what are the issues that you're encountering that is prompting multiple tests for results?

Please check out this article on our Community Forum that might help you out and provide some insight on understanding the results that you're getting back. There is some good information there which you can review.

I am trying to play on Dallas Valorant servers and getting 70-80 ping when I live in Austin. This should never be the case and I’m hoping for help in fixing the routing from Austin to Dallas for that server line.

Three questions:

1) What is your PING to your Gateway (192.168.1.254)?

2) Are you pinging over Wi-Fi or over an Ethernet cable?

3) Have you tried a TraceRT to see if you can see where the latency jumps?

I don’t necessarily have high ping anywhere else.

I am Ethernet connected on the PC directly.

I can’t do a tracert because Valorant’s server IPs aren’t public

If you can't run TRACERT, how are you getting your latency numbers?

If the answer is from the game User Interface, then... well... uh... never mind.

That's understood and It's unfortunate that we don't have a 100% resolution for you on this situation. Based on research, this seems to be a common issue with Valorant and players.

If you research this even through a Google search, there seems to be a lot of online chatter with ping concerns specific to Valorant's servers. You might look into interacting on those forums to determine any best options/solutions that other users may have encountered.
