Devices showing activity when I’m not using them

I have two Amazon sticks that are showing activity in the last 24 hours when I’ve been out of town for days so they are not in use by anyone right now. Really freaking r me out. Any explanations? Can this be false?

Are they powered on?

Lots of things that connect to the Internet have activity when they are "not in use". Things like checking for firmware updates to the device or software on the device come to mind.  Streaming devices sometimes continue to stream if you don't exit the streaming app on the device when you're done watching something.

If Web & App Activity is turned on, your searches and activity from other Google services are saved in your Google Account, so you may get more personalized experiences, like faster searches and more helpful app and content recommendations.

Yes they are powered on…. I mean, they’re fire sticks connected to or thru our televisions that are off but connected to electricity. I’m going nuts that someone is in my home as I’m out of town. 😭

I really think it's just what I described and nothing to worry about.

FireTV sticks continuously download updates, new series information, advertisements, etc.  If they're not powered off, they're talking to the Internet.

We understand your concern about your Firesticks showing activity while you're away, lal731.

However, as tonydi and JefferMC stated, as long as the devices are powered on and connected to the Internet, they'll likely continue to show activity.

Let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Define powered on? The televisions should not be on, again, as I nor anyone else is home.

but yes, the televisions remained plugged into the outlet upon my departure.

is THAT what u mean as powered on?

The TV's power state really doesn't matter.  The sticks get power from the AC adapter so even when the TV is off, the sticks aren't and they're still connected via Wifi to the Internet.  So to counter than you'd have to unplug the stick from the AC adapter.

It probably isn't a lot of data but it's not zero.

No, your right, it’s not reflecting a lot of data usage. But it does show variances in the MB usage go up and down throughout different times of the day.

ok. Yeah, so one stick is literally plugged into the back of my Tv through like a USB/hdmi port or something like that, and the other is “built in” direct firestick or whatever.. sorry… I’m not tech savvy but that’s how the Tv was promoted.
But I am a worrier! Hence all this questioning! 😩

I appreciate everyone Input! Definitely giving me a little peace of mind as opposed to when I first noticed the activity… I was flipping out 😔

All that to say, my thought process isn’t, “I’m worried about my date being used or my internet being “stolen” I’m worried a (Edited per community guidelines) intruder is sitting in my apartment or something! Watching Tv of all things? Lol
