Wireless slow, wired fast???

Hello,

Just had a funny problem come up last night. I was running a speedtest from www.speedtest.net and it said my Download was 5.95 and Upload was 2.00. I am on the Max Plus plan which is 18MBPS. Now here is the weird thing. I had Wi-Fi setup on a third party router, a Netgear. I re enabled wireless on the U-verse modem, guess what, same speeds.

Now i move on to testing with a wired connection with the switch in my bedroom, speeds are fast and fine. What is going on with wireless? Turned off IPv6 and reset everything already.

I just find it weird that i re enable wireless on the NVG589 and it was the same speed as my third party router.

EDIT: Only had one TV on streaming SD content.

Any thoughts?

Always note the server used and test against multiple servers when possible.  I see your slow test was against a server in New Jersey and the fast tests were in Indiana.

Hello,

Yes true. However, i tested with 2-3 servers on the speedtest.net app and they all came back slow. So i don't know what the deal is there.

Have you ever gotten a good speed test on Wi-Fi from that app?

Maybe it's a device issue?

Yes I have. I don't think it is a device issue, check out the server comparisons below. The results are shocking.

ELIZABETHTOWN, KY Server:

INDIANAPOLIS, IN Server:

As you can see i am testing with my IPad now, but it is the same for my IPhone. I had my grandmother test it in Oldham County KY, and it was just about the same results on the ELIZABETHTOWN, KY Server:.

Speedtest servers are *NOT* created equal.  They are provided by organizations for goodwill.  There are some in my area that I have learned to avoid the hard way.  I try to stick with reputable communications provider's servers.

There was an update just released today that fixed all server issues on my end. Test's are now fine, and this is now the best app once again.

Maybe it screens out worthless servers. 🙂

Could be. I don't care really what it was as long as it stay's fixed. This app says to keep your ISP honest, well in this case it is to keep them honest. See how quickly the tables can be turned?

Servers need to be tested a lot better if this is the case. Support should also not throw you off and just say it is AT&T's fault when it was really a server or a bad update.
