wifi keeps disconnecting and reconnecting ever few minutes

About 3-4 weeks ago, our wifi started acting up, disconnecting and we couldn't do much around the house but sit bored. Last week we had a technician come and said he didn't see anything wrong with the signal, that it may be the modem (we already had a new modem and it didn't work either.) up until today we didn't have wifi, completely off. Stayed red. Today we had a technician come and fix the issue so for about 3-4hours the WiFi was working steadily. Now it start to disconnect/reconnect every few minutes. How do we fix this?

What is the model number of your gateway?

Have you tried to disable IpV6 in the settings?

My wi-fi has been dropping out for over a year. I was told that I needed to increase my Internet speed, so I increased from 50 to 150, but it has not helped.

Increasing your speed will not help with drop outs.

You need to determine if it's your internet service that is being interrupted or just wifi.

When wifi drops do all of your other internet connected devices continue to work?

When wifi drops does you router reboot at the same time?

Answers to these questions will help determine where to look next.

We have been having this problem since the day of signing up and getting connected. Every 5-35 minutes we get a disconnect that kicks all devices and restarts the modem. it is very frustrating considering we have 3 ranked gamers in household and have had to take temporary bans on regular basis because of such frequent disconnects.

Looks like AT&T internet is just completely unreliable, they're aware of it, and just don't care. I've had it for 2 days, and I haven't gotten to finish a single game without being disconnected. Gonna be cancelling tomorrow. Pathetic service, all around.

I have been having similar problem with my ATT internet for a while now, the speed test online shows 100mbps and att speed test shows 395mbps, however the problem is not speed, but i have been seeing the connection issue, e.g. if i am playing a game (like chess) i have only 30 seconds to play my turn and out of 10 time 8 times my turn gets timed out, and the connection on top of the screen shows reconnecting every min or 2. I had informed the tech support guy and they have changed by router a couple of time i have restarted and reset the router 100s of times and its not helping. last option would be changing the service. Thought of checking something online and saw this page so I am putting my trouble with ATT internet.

Same here! I have been having  issues for over a year now. I have had countless techs come out a replace equipment again and again. Upgraded my internet service twice one to I think it was 250 now I'm at a thousand and still dropping every hour or so. It drops intermittently with no ryme or reason. I have been a customer with them for 9+ years. That's about to change

Yes. I need help because it keeps disconnecting every 5 to 10 minutes and it’s getting absolutely ridiculous. This has been going on for months now and forget trying to talk to someone about it that’s even harder to try and do. I’ve already reset everything from top to bottom multiple times.  Moved my boosters, you name it. It just DROPS OUT.... then turns back on after 10 min. No one will ever call me because god forbid.

Hello, @Wingo987

We understand how frustrating it can be to have unreliable internet service.  There are many things that can cause intermittent WiFi drops; we can help address some of those here.

When you have already completed the basic steps, like resetting the router and moving the boosters, we may need to start looking at the router’s environment.

  • Keep other electronics and wireless emitting devices at least 3ft away from the router
  • Plug the router directly into a wall outlet, preferably non-GFCI, to isolate any potential power issues.
  • Make sure the router is in an open space and off the ground

You can look over this self-care article for more information that may help resolve the issue.  Or, for more personalized troubleshooting, try our Troubleshoot and Resolve Tool

Once logged in, it will provide account-specific steps and will even set up a technician visit if needed.
