Why is my internet so slow?
I've had AT&T for a few years now. U-verse TV, Internet, and have it for my cell phone. Since we have gotten U-verse TV and internet it has been nothing but a headache. We have had numerous AT&T workers come out and try to resolve the issue but nothing has seemed to work. They have installed a new router, checked the wires coming out of my house, replaced wires from the main line in my neighborhood and nothing has changed.
The U-Verse TV will have issues of flickering/skipping at times. Doesn't happen all the time, but it usually always does it several times during Sunday Football games. Not sure if it's a problem with something in my area or not. (New Orleans, Louisiana)
Today, someone in the house was using their laptop to watch a movie on HBO Now and the internet had trouble even doing that.
I ran a speed test and the results are 1.82 MPBS Download and 1.22 MPBS Upload. The last time AT&T came out i ran a speed test right after they left and it was at 6 MPBS Download. I checked the device list on my gateway address and currently only 3 IPhones and 2 Laptops are connected.
I don't want to cancel my subscription because we've have AT&T for so long but our experience has been very frustrating. Please help.

Hi @genenola,
Sorry for the delay getting in touch with you regarding your slow speeds. I am here to help.
First thing you need to do is run a wired speed test to see if your speeds are matching your plan. Wired speed tests are the only way to accurately test speeds since wireless testing is not as accurate. Wireless speeds can drop in half because of environmental interference beyond AT&T's control. Also, the more devices you have connected, the slower speeds will be. When you run the test, all but one device needs to be on.
Our Internet Quick Fix article goes over other items that can cause service to slow or drop. If you are a wireless household, check out our Wireless Hub article. It has recommend fixes that may help. If not, please reply back to this thread and let me know.

What I really want to understand is why AT&T is so incredibly unstable. My internet will be fine one minute, then suddenly it will be at 5-20% of the speed I'm paying for - and it will remain this way whether or not I restart my router UNTIL I CALL THEM AND THEY PRESS A MAGIC BUTTON AND FIX IT! In other words, this feels intentional and controlled. If they can fix the issue with a literal press of a button yet my net constantly has issues, it is intentional. It seems like a way to save money by throttling their users' internet speeds despite the fact that IT IS A SERVICE THEY ARE PAYING FOR.
