Want to inform ATT about issues with FF14 data servers and ISP providers, copied from FF14 Lodestone.

Connection Quality to North American Data Center Degrading for Customers Using Certain ISPs (May 26)

We are currently receiving a large number of inquiries from customers using certain ISPs about degraded connection quality when connecting to the North American data center.

The development and infrastructure teams investigated and found no problems with the FINAL FANTASY XIV servers or data center. However, the teams did find that connection quality was degrading at certain points on the Internet, depending on the connection used to reach the servers.

Although we are unable to directly investigate or address this issue as it is not an area that we can handle internally, we are working with the network carriers that are directly connected to our servers to resolve the issue, but as the problem is in the internet pathways and the detailed jurisdiction is unclear, we have not received a positive response at this time.

We will continue to strive to address this issue, but we would appreciate it if you could also contact your ISP or other service providers.

As stated in previous numerous post it has been an issue for quite some time between ATT members and Final Fantasy 14 players. Only for the game Final Fantasy 14 tho, no other game has had issues.

Hi there, Queen_Ulfhrafn. Let's address your concern with regard to your internet connection while playing Final Fantasy 14.

To troubleshoot gaming and high ping, there are a few things that can cause your internet speed to slow down:

  • Time of day - Early in the day normally means fewer people gaming. Later in the afternoon or evening means more people gaming.  The more people online, the more traffic those servers have which means higher ping and latency you are used to. This is not an item AT&T can control as it is currently the nature of high peak times.
  • Number of devices - If you have a lot of devices on a plan that cannot support them, your gaming experience may suffer. The reason, you may not have enough bandwidth to play. Each device shares a portion of your speed. If you have a 100 down plan and 10 devices, each device will get an estimated 5-10Mbps depending on how it's connected, Wi-Fi or Wired.
  • The host - The host of the room you are in can negatively impact the experience depending on their internet speed, the number of devices they have connected, and their home network. In some instances, a new host can resolve some issues.

Furthermore, we recommend running a search to see who manages the IP where the latency issue appears to be. You can run a Whois search to see who manages that IP and reach out to them to investigate the issue.

Thank you for reaching out to us at the AT&T Community Forums. If you need assistance in the future, do not hesitate to reach back out to us.

If there is an issue with my internet it is an ISP provider or gaming services problem. As stated in the original the gaming services and data centers are aware of the issue and the issue is also involving ISP(which is you or other ISP) hardware. As stated in https://forums.att.com/conversations/att-fiber-account/ffxiv-latency-high-ping-and-packet-loss-between-att-and-ntt/646e047c9205de56a01bcff0 the issue lies with ATT.
