WAN NAT/Gaming rules are not followed when accessing them from internal LAN
I have an NVG599 setup with NAT/Gaming (port forwarding) rules. The rules properly route when routing traffic from WAN, but if the traffic comes from the LAN the route is not completed. It's like the modem doesn't understand how to complete the route for internal Lan traffic requesting to be routed back into the internal Lan using the port forward rules. 3rd party firewalls/routers don't seem to have this limitation, the routes will complte regardless if the traffic is coming from wan or lan. Currently I have disabled packet filters, and all "Firewall Advanced" security rules.. Still cant get the internal traffic to route properly using the wan address. Any Ideas? This creates a problem when an applcation on a mobile device (cell phone/tablet/laptop) needs to communicate with the server regardless of the device being on the the same internal Wifi network the server is using, or if the Mobile Device is using some other data connection (Cell Phone data / or the users home wifi network)..
Example:
NVG599 wan address is 99.26.1.19
Server lan address is 192.168.1.26
NVG 599 NAT/Gaming rule set to forward port 5000 to 192.168.1.26
Works:
when not conected to the LAN network, I can access the server by using 99.26.1.19:5000
Does Not Work:
when connected to the Lan network, I can not access the server by using 99:26.1.19:5000

After I created this post amd was reading the new post, I noticed on the right side that this sites A.I. said a related conversation was a post named "Unable to access internal network from external address" @ https://forums.att.com/t5/Residential-Wi-Fi-Gateway/Unable-to-access-internal-network-from-external-address/m-p/3311277 ..
That posts soulution won't work becuase I am not using DNS but actual IP addresses. Plus to enable custom dns on a andriod OS I have to turn off DHCP, which is not an option.

The U-verse RGs do not normally do a loopback on the public IP. If you want this, you have to put your RG in IP Passthrough to an internal router which does external loopback on your WAN address.

AHH.. So the technical term for what this is called is "external loopback"...
I am am aware that this does work if I used a 3rd party router, On other installs I have an ATT Modem with Ip Pass through enabled to a router, and I don't have this problem...
So is there a way to get external loopback enabled on the att modem?
Is there a particular reason why external loopback is not enabled?

Doing some digging on "Uverse NAT Loopback"....
And it seems like some models of gateways support this???
Here is a user talking about how his firmware on his 2Wire 3800 HGV-B was upgrade to support loopback @ http://www.davidwesterfield.net/2010/03/nat-loopback-turned-up-on-att-u-verse-router/ ????

I see the post. However, my experience has been that it doesn't work. I have a 3800.
I've heard from more than one customer in the years since that post that it wasn't working for them, but I couldn't tell you what models they have (except I know at least one was an NVG 589).

@JefferMC, so there is no work around for this? other than using ip passthrough?
The problem that I ran into using Ip passthrough, is that the Uverse TV Boxes, when plugged into the 3rd party router, video become slow when flipping channels. (IGMP releated I think).
and if I leave the tv boxes on the RG, i then had limited access to viewing live tv content on uverse.com on computers that are configured on the 3rd party router, becuase uverse.com web app could not see the dvr boxes and I guess it assumed I was not on my "home" network...
Sheesh.. Can't we all just get along!!!
Going to call into support and see what they have to say about this...
Is there a prticular number I can call to deal with like a Level 3 tech?

Unless you have a router that handles IGMPv3 and multicast properly, you cannot connect your TV receivers through it (and the recommendation would be not to do it). Normally changing channels isn't the issue, its when you stop at a channel, the video will freeze/disappear after 10 to 20 seconds.
There should be no issue with running videos Uverse.Com on a router attached to your RG with the IPTV gear going through one or more separate RG ports. U-verse.Com should only care that your IP address is assigned to an RG in a U-verse TV subscribing home with sufficient service for you to watch the program.
You can the U-verse technical support team by clicking this
U-verse Customer Service link to send a Private Message (PM) to the AT&T customer service team to help you resolve your issues. You can expect a reply via return PM (the blue envelope
in the upper right hand corner of this site, next to your name and avatar) in a business day or three.
This is a group of U-verse service specialists who are knowledgeable about U-verse and will stay with your problem until the end (instead of forgetting about it when the phone hits the cradle). Speed things up by including your Billing Account Number, and the best time and way to reach you. These guys are pretty good, but they won't stray from AT&T policy about how it's supposed to work and what might work fine but not be by-the-book.

FYI, the "new" NVG599 has the same problem. I could not understand why I had a problem until I connected to my MiFi and then everything I could not see from my LAN side connection appeared as expected.
