U-verse Router setuup for FAX capability

Can the AT&T router model 5268AC FXN be used for FAX capability with the MS Fax program on my PC?  If so, how can I find configuration information?

Hey @LastCh,

Let us help with that!

The Windows Fax and Scan program requires the use of a phone line, so you will need to be subscribed to U-verse Digital Phone service. It is not possible to fax using solely the AT&T gateway.

We hope this answered your question!

I tried calling AT&T "support" and it was a waste of time, frustrating, and downright garbage.  I got a computer auto answering machine and it was confused as to what my problem was and ran a diagnostic on my internet service and said it would send someone out and charge $99 if the problem was inside my house and no charge if outside-- My internet is operating just fine.  Finally after yelling at AT&T's stupid auto answering system that I wanted to talk to a real person, I got some tech that didn't have a clue, and he routed me "off shore" to another STUPID auto-answering system -- *****!

I did tell the tech that I didn't want anyone to come out to my house and that my internet service was working just fine--thank you very much. Exercise in futility talking to a machine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@LastCh,

We're sorry about your experience with the phone agents! As we stated earlier, you will need telephone service to fax. Alternatively, you may be able to use a 3rd party FOIP service.

Let us know if you have any other questions!

Not even close to answering my question.  I do have digital phone through my ATT U-verse router.  I called ATT service and was frustrated at every level: 1) getting past the stupid computer that couldn't figure out that I needed to talk to a specialist.  The ATT auto-answering system decided to run a diagnostic on my internet connection (which is working just fine) and send a technician to my home and charge $99 if the problem is inside my house and free if it is outside.  I finally got through to t a real person and told him right-off NOT TO SEND A TECHNICIAN to my house.  He did not have a clue as to what I wanted to do (thought I wanted to add FAX hardware-- I don't.  I want to use the MS FAX software and the existing U-verse router that has a phone line and a Broadband line connected to it.  The tech said he would connect me to support "off-shore".  I got another ATT auto-answering system that was worthless....

We understand that this is a frustrating situation, @LastCh, and we want to make sure we're on the same page.

To be clear, there is no way for you to send a fax using only your AT&T equipment. To fax using your PC, you would need to connect to a fax modem using a dial-up connection, a fax server, or use a 3rd party fax software to handle the fax processes. To use your VoIP equipment, you would need to acquire a fax machine, or fax-capable printer, and an adapter to connect the fax machine to your VoIP equipment.

Additional support for fax software, including configuration settings, would be provided by the developers of the software.

If you have any questions about AT&T products and services, we would be more than happy to help!

Rory,

I'm having the same problem as @LastCh with my fax machine. I have ATT Uverse TV, voice, and internet service set up with fiber coming into the house. These alI work great. But I cannot send out a fax using a recent (2019) fax machine. I tried adjusting various settings on the fax machine, like baud rate, etc., to no avail. I believe the problem is that my ATT gateway (Pace 5268AC) is not correctly sending out the fax via VOIP. Is there an ATT Uverse gateway box that works with a fax machine?

Thanks,

Stu Keller

You are subscribed to ATT Phone Voip? Have a solid green light on the gateway for Phone, flashes when phone is off hook, in use?

If yes, then need to connect the phone port of your pc or fax machine to the phone port of the gateway. If have a phone currently connected to that port you will need a line splitter to provide a path both to pc and home phone. If not sure how to wire this, would require the tech dispatch with the $99 service call to resolve wiring.

As far as setup, that would be done on the computer, contact the software maker (Micro Soft) if online video or instructions is not available.
