@melodymay67,

Which device and app are you using?

As far as the syslog traffic goes, I was thinking that something else would have to be done because some documentation that I found on IP Passthrough stated that no devices on the BGW210-700 could communicate with any devices on the network behind IP Passthrough and vice-versa.

As for the SPAN port, I was hoping that the BGW210-700 itself would support a SPAN port. If not, I can definitely set one up on one of my Ubiquity switches and hang the honeypot off of it.

Thanks!

@DavidCS - should that also work on a 5268AC?  I understand that when I was using the HPNA port for U-Verse, I still needed the actual routing function in the Pace unit (and therefore was limited to running my router as an AP), but I was told that even when I no longer needed that, I couldn't run it in pure passthrough.  (This was a year or so ago - perhaps it's changed since then.)

Hi @jon.irish,

Everything should work fine. We have had issues in the past and have corrected it, but even with IP Passthrough on, other devices do work. The best example would be if you have U-verse TV and Internet, the TV service must stay connected to the U-verse gateway, and it will still work with IP Passthrough enabled. If you do notice issues with the syslog, let us know.

To my knowledge, the BGW does not have a port mirroring feature, so it would have to be setup on your device. Since you are having to go through your own device, it may not be worth it and may be easier to just have the traffic go through your honeypot and then out to your other devices, so you don't have to deal with port mirroring.

Hi @Jrandomuser,

I would think it would work still, at least for this scenario. It's not pure passthrough, but the traffic should be seen by your router to be able to use it for port mirroring. There is some traffic routed to the correct channels, such as TV service in the example I previously provided.

@DavidCS - I no longer care about the HPNA trafffic, and I really would prefer that the HG acted purely as a modem, and let my router handle all routing, firewall, DHCP, etc., but I've been told that can't be done.  I am not interested in just seeing all the traffic, so port mirroring doesn't do what I'd like.

@Jrandomuser - What issues are you running into when you try to do this? It definitely can't handle all traffic, just because of unique things, such as VOIP or TV, but it should be able to do all the internet routing. I have a router behind router setup in my house, and it works with no issues. Granted, I may not be trying to do anything as complicated as you, but my internal home network has no issues, and external access works as needed.
