Unable to Install AT T Internet Security Suite

Hi,

I am unable to install the ATT Internet Security suite (aka McAfee Antivirus suite). Following are the details.

1. I have a windows 10 computer, which had a previous version of McAfee (also through ATT internet and expired). I uninstalled it using instructions on the KB article page (uninstalled from Control Panel, used pre-install tool and MCPR tool).

2. Navigated to "Download AT&T Internet Security Suite powered by McAfee" page

3. Took me through the login page and eventually to the download link page

4. Upon clicking "Download Security Suite" it takes me to generic McAfee landing page with "Buy" options (no prompt for downloads).

5. Verified that we qualify for the free version and compatibility

  • 25+ Mbps Internet Plan
  • Computer has 8GB RAM
  • Updated to latest security patches for Windows 10

Tried many 6+ times with slight variations and no luck!

I have been trying to download my free McAfee to my new laptop for 3 weeks. I called AT&T and was told the site was down and to give it 24 to 48 hours. I have been trying every day since and still getting the same error. "We cannot process your request at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience.

There has been no McAfee download link for at LEAST 6 months now at AT&T's web site. Both AT&T & McAfee are aware of the issue, so they say. Been told they're working on resolving the issue but if it's been six months, then that's a lie. The issue would have been resolved long ago if either party were serious.

This would be laughable if it weren't so pathetic.

The links to install the free McAfee suite do not work and after several calls lasting several hours, billing determined I'm eligible for free version, been cutoff 5 times and sent to other areas with no expertise for the product. How do you find and install the free ATT McAfee Suite? Is there another link?

Hi @bbindy, we're happy to help you download the McAfee Suite.

Here are a few things to check if you are having trouble downloading.

  • What type of device are you attempting to use? McAfee is only supported on PC's and Laptops so mobile devices and phones won't work
  • Try downloading thru the "Get it" link on our Internet Security Suite article

If you are still having trouble, please respond with some more details about the problem.

  • What exactly happens when you click the link and try to download?
  • Are there any error messages?

Let us know how to better assist you.

Thank you for contacting us on AT&T Community Forums!

I am having the exact same problem as gwoliangc. Come on ATT, get your act together. I called support yesterday and McAfee. McAfee told me this is a problem others have had and it's on ATT end. ATT tech support did not have a clue, would not believe me and wanted to try a bevy of unrelated solutions - no doubt from a script that has nothing to do with this problem. Ridiculous.

gwoliangc, did you eventually find a solution?

I'm not able to download  McAfee to my new laptop.   There is an "English Download" blue button on the ATT McAfee download page.  When I click on it it takes me to the McAfee site with a message that says "A System Error Occurred.   Please try again."  I've been  trying  at random times for over a week with no change.  I've tried FireFox, Chrome and IE browsers.  Since the error is on the McAfee site I contacted them but they said the issue was with AT&T.  I'm on a windows 10 machine.  Can anyone help?

We're here to help, @mguseracct

We recommend trying these steps.

  1. Go to http://sm.att.com/53b0d6b7 ( do not click "download now" yet.)
  2. Log in at the top, using the log in button
  3. Then click download
  4. You will then login again at the screen that comes up
  5. Follow the remaining instructions to install

Let us know if this helps.

Do you have any existing security software installed? If so we recommend uninstalling it as this may prevent the download of new software.

We also recommend doing a pre-installation cleanup

Here is additional information on Installing the security suite that you may find helpful.

There isn't existing security software on my computer.  Even if there was, that may impact the installation but not the download.   I've now tried this with two other laptops with the same error.  I believe the problem is on the web site. Please try to do this yourself.   I also ask anyone in the community to try and let me know if the download works. You don't have to run the install.

Hi @mguseracct, we are delighted to help with our AT&T Internet Security Suite.

We suggest reading through our article on Installing AT&T Internet Security Suite to make sure that you meet the account requirements (an Internet plan of 3.0Mbps or higher) and checking out the McAfee Knowledge Center to do the pre-installation cleanup.

Make sure your Mac meets these minimum operating system requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.8 or higher
  • Computer with Intel processor
  • 1GB RAM or higher
  • 150MB of available free drive space

If after this, you're still unable to install the security suite, let us know.

Thank you for contacting us on AT&T Community Forums!

When I try to download the software I get the following error: "A system error occurred. Please try again." I have tried this multiple times over several days, it doesn't work. I successfully downloaded to 2 different PC's in January. So I should still have 2 licenses left. During one of my tests, I received a message about server not available.

I had Norton installed on my PC. I uninstalled it and ran the Norton removal tool. Then I ran the McAfee pre-installation tool. When I try to DOWNLOAD the software I get the above error. I performed all these tasks under my ADMIN id. I get the same error when I try to access the McAfee account manager from the AT&T download page(https://uversecentral3.att.com/uvp/myhome/mam/!ut/p/a1/hY65DoJAFEW_hYJ25iFr7EZCkEWJWgjTGDZhDDAERr5fJJair7s35-Q-THGMaZdOrEoF413avDM1bsFG0UALIHQ3CgESOop_iY6KDfoMJDMAK0fgn3_FdEFsl-w1MwRwT9oOPPMQBc7ZUsEzPsCPCR_TquHZ8m5Cuky1KkyH8l4O5YCew1zXQvTjVgYZOCtyxIoe5Q2vWIdSIVDOWxm-uTUfBY5XFNy3MTz0ZgqJJL0Af78JMg!!/dl5/d5/L2dBISEvZ0FBIS9nQSEh/) link.

So, how do I get a link that works?

I previously scanned similar forum posts and noticed this problem has been around for a while. I re-scanned after my post and found a comment form thinkalo saying they fixed it by calling "AT&T technical support (800-288-2020) and asking for help installing AT&T McAfee Interne Security Suite AND ask to speak to a Technical Support agent via phone." I did this and I too had my problem resolved my a McAfee technician. He said that this is a problem with AT&T but gave me a work around link (NOTE: This did not solve the (Edited per community guidelines) AT&T problem). Please note that the technician took control of my PC to do the install.

Yes, I was able to install it on 2 PC's, which takes me to the 4 ACTIVE PC count. However, the standard link to get McAfee still doesn't work which is why I said there is still a problem (for other AT&T users).

I have a similar problem with the McAfee account administration link - it doesn't work. I have 2 INACTIVE devices in the list and have no way to remove them because I can't log in from these devices to "de-register" the software. Depending upon your response to this, I may open another forum issue for this problem.

I can login to my att account, select the option to download the security suite. It takes me to the page where I agree to the terms, once I select that I agree, it redirects me to an error page and says I need to login again, which I do, then it gives me another error page, stating it hit a snag, login again, then redirects me back to the main account overview page.

Tried calling tech support. The automated system told me that my internet is working fine and refused to let me speak to someone :-/

Any ideas how to resolve this?
