Switching from u-verse gateway to google WiFi router

I have an 11 year old router. It’s the U-verse 3800HGV-B and I want to replace it with a google WiFi setup. (keeping the gateway, just switching out the router). Can I do this without switching the existing gateway into bridge mode? In theory, I should be able to plug the google router into the gateway using the LAN/WAN ports, but I don’t know if I have to do some configuring first. Any help is appreciated.

We are here to help, @thewifiguy.

If you are using a third party gateway you would need to enable bridge mode. Also, here is more information on how to connect a non AT&T gateway to the internet.

Let us know if this helps.
