Smart Wifi extender 4971 not working

Here is a question in the forum from November: "Just got a new smart wifi extender 4971-41 from AT&T.  Went thru several app guided setups but always says it can't connect to gateway. I've placed the extender in its new location and has solid white light but app is showing off line with no connected devices. I have restarted network and power cycled extender and reset wifi on different devices but still unsure if is working per app?"

I am having the same problem, but the question wasn't answered in the forum. Only response was AT&T tech needed to look at it. I understand, but is there some general things we can try?

We can provide instructions on how to set up your AT&T Wi-Fi extender and connect it to your AT&T Wi-Fi gateway Pdc_802pdc.

Watch this video to expand your Wi-Fi coverage. We'll walk you through the steps to connect your AirTies 4971 Wi-Fi extender to your home gateway.

For a successful setup, make sure you have:

  • AT&T AirTies 4971 Wi-Fi extender1
  • AT&T internet service
  • Pace 5268AC, BGW210, or BGW320 Wi-Fi® gateway (NVG589 and NVG599 don't support AirTies 4971)
  • A single Wi-Fi name and password for both radio bands on your gateway. Learn more about band steering
  • AT&T Smart Home Manager app (suggested for easy Wi-Fi management). Don’t have the app? Download it from the Apple App store or Google Play store.

Follow the steps below to use the AT&T Smart Home Manager App

  1. Go to Smart Home Manager. Sign in, if asked.
  2. Select Home Network Hardware.
  3. Choose Add Wi-Fi extender.
  4. Follow the prompts.

Since you mentioned you have a solid white color on the AirTies 4971, It simply mean the extender is connected to the Wi-Fi gateway. All you need to do next is to connect device to the extender using ethernet cable or Wi-Fi.

Finally, you can understand what the LED color on your AirTies 4971 means and determine it's states.

Please let us know if this helps.

I have this exact same issue with both of my AirTies 4971 after recently upgrading to the BGW320 gateway. Both of my wifi extenders paired without issue and even my network recognized the new devices through the Smart Home Manager app, but neither are activating. I repowered wifi network multiple times and checked connections (hard to screw up). After 10 minutes of setting up extender, error message states that it cannot connect and to check the cables. Will be on the phone with AT&T tech support tomorrow night.
